I’ve comeback to D2 with the MoT. I left after the embargo lifted on the Year of Prophecy and I seen what Bungie had planned for Destiny. I started this journey at The Dark Below.
Experiencing D1’s normal & hard mode raids, D2’s contest, master, and normal modes for both raids & dungeons, and Pantheon 1 & 2 plus Rite of the Nine - there’s a clear difference and clear superior level of difficulty for this kind content.
I’m personally of the opinion that the tier system sucks. My experience from Pantheon 1 to 2 on the hardest difficulty is dramatically different. 1.0 felt like a challenge & I just needed to meet the challenge. 2.0’s feat system just feels annoying and void of fun.
1.0 just had tougher enemies that were more aggressive and better shots, and a few twists to the encounters. Same with RotN’s feel. I really enjoyed those experiences.
2.0 just feels like ultimate level enemies, but requires you to jump on one leg & juggle chainsaws with one arm tied behind your back. Very gimmick heavy. Not fun.
It’s like the comparison between D1’s OG nightfalls compared to D2’s champion - match game - locked loadout reliance to artificially create challenges. Rather than just having the challenge be tougher, more skilled enemies and a stronger boss.
For the future of Destiny I hope they learn from what works and what feels bad.
I hope Nightfall strike style activities are more like they were in D1.
I hope raid & dungeon have normal & hard modes like D1. But, I’d also like to see something akin to a contest mode option that can be accessed anytime.
The RaD release competitions can still have unique rewards for flex and will still be a challenge for those that jump in - as the content will still be brand new & only run for a limited time. Having a contest mode style experience for those that come after to challenge themselves would be awesome from my perspective.
Anyway, just my thoughts about the subject for the team. Peace.

I don’t enjoy the feat system tbh, it makes things a drag. However original master content is really kinda a pain to get done back then. Looking back it was like damn, but yeah it was doable lol the master challenges is where it was bad. That being said the feat system is devoid of fun and while it can add good features for teams that play other a lot for lfg it can be hit or miss

4 RepliesBungie needs to find a way between not focus-grouping an idea to death and not listening to their playerbase at all. This is the real design problem they’ve had for a generation.

1 ReplyThe only issue with D1's nightfalls was how simple they were to cheese. Pretty much every encounter and boss had some kind of spot you could plink away from.

1 ReplyEnd game raiding and dungeons are not what keep most players in the game. Most players do not complete current raids regularly. catering to this group by making the whole game harder is what started the whole downfall during the netune expansion. Further work to make all content build related lead to more and more players leaving. Couple that with poor stories, and other issues, put the nail in the coffin. Bungie may or may not be successful. i believe bungie has to focus on making the game fun and enjoyable for the average players first. hard content is fine and should remain a focus, but you can't relegate the average skilled players to patrols and lost sectors if you want to keep the game afloat.

I think the new pantheon is better because it doesn’t have the dumb point system. The point system was bad because it made some encounters very lame with how you had to do them. It was fine for riven because it made you do it legit but some of them like atraks I believe in the 2nd version you had to beat insanely fast or you have to take forever for the time limit and point system to give you enough. Sure the feat system can be a little boring but I still like it better and it offers customizable difficulty. Everyone hates the banes? Fine go to orbit and change it to something else and you’re good.
