I don't see a problem with D2 in its current state or understand the need for a new game. D2 is still an excellent game.
For me, the biggest issues with it are:
1) Low population and all the crap that comes with it (longer queue times, more lag, play same people, looser SBMM, etc.)
2) No good console anti-cheat
3) Repetitive map selections in Trials (how many weekends has Endless been the map now?)
4) Sandbox balancing issues
5) Still very "grindy" when it comes to obtaining god rolls (even tho its not nearly as bad as it used to be)
I would put no Dedicated servers on the list, but with a healthy population, p2p is honestly fine. Even now, I don't really notice a ton of lag outside of a few really egregious players who honestly seem more like lag switchers than anything.
Third person, cover mechanics, still get the gunplay feel correct though (toughy)
No increasing gear score, more like Crimson Desert, gear ability customization and tuning to builds, slight increase in power through forge but all gear is roughly the same with some trade-off from purpose of gear (like cloth, leather, chain, metal)
Search for all the variations of gear you want tied to many different activities, but not random stats and perks, that's just you build crafting with materials and items you find or build to place in the gear.
Call it Causal Loop.
