Thread mostly applies to Lighthouse Passage, which is nearly unplayable with new players and incoherent teams at this point.
So this is not a rant as I still find fun in Trials, it's more of an observation. Ever since I started playing during Beyond Light, Trials has been terrible in some way, especially as a solo. Back then it was almost unplayable as a new player. You were faced with constant premades, and the meta was awful as anything I have ever seen. Basically slide shotgun The Game.
Over time Bungie has made PvP a lot better, but it's taken a long time, and a few issues will always remain I am sure.
Trials has improved a ton, and the mode is basically for loot as it should be, and it's more accessible with less super limited rare rewards for anybody playing flawless like before. Giving people stuff for 5+ in a row is fair. No issues with that.
Going way back as I got better in PvP solo, I started to realize that almost every match is dictated by the worst player in the game. This is how top premades basically have 70-90% winrates. One player on a bad team does nothing. In fact, he powers up the other team, effectively making the game a 4v2.
I routinely have a .0 to .3 KDA player on my team, or I see one on the other team. It's absolutely crazy. Yes, I realize that this was a dead mode basically with the prior rules, but I think there is still a HUGE gap in skill, and this matchmaking is incompetent at best. Rarely do I even see competitive, balanced matches, which sucks because those are extremely fun. The Lighthouse Passage I think is the worst one by far. A constant stream of crazy PvE dudes or people who have no idea what they are doing. Duo stacks with combined .5 KD's that I am somehow supposed to carry against another team that is triple their KD. But then it feels like at some point you start racking up wins for no other reason than the game says here are good players and they have bad players.
For me personally elimination gets old, and new or poor players have no chance in this mode whatsoever. Thank the lord we now have three maps in rotation sometimes. Back then ONE map and only Elimination was absurdly stupid from a design standpoint. Even now it makes for extremely imbalanced games win or lose. It goes to show you how poorly managed the entire thing was at Bungie. It took YEARS to make any of this playable.
Dunno what else to say, I do my part on the team usually, but it rarely seems to matter. We either have an anchor, or the other team does, and you basically just give a game each time you are down one guy.
This player base though. I can't imagine how anybody playing a shooter like this can't even scrap an assist in 5 or 6 Trials matches. It boggles my mind.
For me I consistently see more competitive games in Control, Mayhem, and other modes like 4v4. The fair matches in Trials are still amazing, but I wish there were more of them.
Yes, those other modes also have instant dumps where you know your team is garbage, but backing out doesn't result in a 30 minute downtime either. And quite honestly, maybe it is elimination that makes it hard for some of these people to do well... yet I still wish we could just filter some of these .3 and less KDA players into their own matches together so maybe they could learn a bit about Trials before sabotaging every game they are in.

2 RepliesThey literally have SBMM in the game. If people try to deny it......they have to be mouth breathers at this point. I get a person on PC who is AFK or literally hides the entire time. GJAKE needs to get back on and do carries again, so these people can go wait for their help.

2 RepliesFirst I’m not great in trials but I will always do my best and try to stick with my teammates… but mostly the self proclaimed great pvp player on my team always blames everything on the other two players, and just throws the match when it’s like 2-0 or 3-0…. Also that player is 90% of the time the one who wonders off alone and gets himself killed first every round! I play it for the loot and want to win, but the problem in most matches outside of fishy things, is the players who think they’re great but mostly even worse than me lmao

7 RepliesNo sbmm in trials, that's why matches aren't balanced & the mode is actually fun

2 RepliesWhat makes a game competitive is not how challenging the games are... What makes a game competitive is the reward structure. Control is not very competitive, because everyone gets the same rewards, regardless of win or loss. Competitive (the game mode) and Trials are "competitive", because they reward winning much more than losing. IRL, "Open" skill tournament brackets are often the most "competitive" bracket in any sport, and there is no kind of balance. Nearly all prize money is found in this pool.

3 RepliesLove trials but I have around 600 games this season and I’m losing my enjoyment, been trying to get the new ghost shell and I just feel depressed at this point
