'Positron' or planned obsolescence? Consumer accessibility differences for next gen as is being reported.

Some terms (before I begin): Planned Obsolescence: A business strategy where a product is deliberately designed with a limited useful life so it will become unfashionable, fragile, or stop working after a certain period, forcing you to purchase the replacement. Vendor Lock-In (or Ecosystem Lock-In): A situation where a company makes it exceedingly difficult or expensive for you to switch to a competitor, essentially forcing you to buy their updated hardware, accessories, or software again just to keep your existing setup working. Everyone is doing the latter. But it seems Sony is also doing the former, whilst MS and Xbox are trying to preserve consumers' ability to maintain their libraries into the next generation of hardware whilst possibly giving life to end of generation hardware sales. Because you'll need a current gen Xbox with a disc drive. The rumored moniker is "Positron"... it's not brand new, other disc to digital accessibility options already exist. Essentially this how it will work for Xbox: Any current licenses you own will carryover to next gen connected to your account. If you have physical media in good condition that can be installed and that have the protocol required for tracking. And from what the information being reported claims — that's Xbox One and beyond (for discs). Essentially, you'll still be able to transfer ownership... but the license will only be honored for the person that actually owns the physical disc. Which means even into next gen, you'll be able to buy & collect physical media that will still be playable on your account. For Example: If I was a collector like that... I could use my Series X to digitize any physical media that is compatible and bring that library into next gen. Sony is going to make you rebuy most everything. Including 'digital' licenses. Alot of people have to save for this stuff, and if you want to resist moving to data centers/streaming... that's why I'm providing this insight. Do your own research, make the choices that make sense for you.
