Hard Crashing to Desktop (Steam) Since MoT Update

Ever since the Monument of Triumph Update I have been experiencing frequent hard crashes to desktop When it crashes it freeze for a second then completely closes the window and goes to desktop, I get no error codes or anything. Then when going to relaunch Destiny 2 through steam it says its still running showing "STOP" instead of "PLAY" even though Destiny isn't shown as open on the taskbar. Then when opening task manager it shows Destiny as still running but using no resources besides 25% Memory (I have 32gb). Only way to close down the game to be able to relaunch it is to End the task. I play on steam and I think I could count the amount of times I had crashed prior to the MoT update on two hands, and that's with over 3,000 hours of playtime on steam. Now ever since the MoT update I can't go a single game session without crashing multiple times... It seems to be relatively random for the most part, some times it'll happen within 30 minutes of playing, and at times it won't happen for a few hours. It only seems to happen when loaded into an actively whether that is in Patrol, Strikes, Dungeons, ECT. It's mostly when actively playing but has happened when I was afk as well. I don't think its ever happened in orbit or in the tower. There is one thing that I have found where I can consistently replicate the crash without fail which is oddly enough when at the OG loot cave in "Skywatch, Cosmodrome" killing the Infinitely spawning enemies to complete orders will sometimes crash with me being there for less than 10 minutes, other times I can be there for maybe 45 minutes but I will 100% crash at some point. This has had me banging my head against the wall trying to troubleshoot and fix it. It had me starting to stress out thinking my PC or a PC component might be failing. Though this has only ever happened with Destiny 2 so I don't think that's the case. PC Specs Processor - AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D 16-Core Processor (4.30 GHz) Installed RAM - 32.0 GB (31.6 GB usable) Graphics card - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER (12 GB) Storage - 1.25 TB of 1.86 TB used System type - 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor Some of the things I have tried are: - Update to latest Windows 11 Version - Disable Windows Game mode - Disable "Optimizations for windowed games" in Windows - Disable Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling in Windows settings - Disable Variable refresh rate in Windows in settings - Disable Windows Dynamic Lighting - Clean install of Nvidia Drivers - Close unnecessary background applications - Verify Integrity of game files - Uninstall and reinstall Destiny 2 - Disable Steam overlay - Disable Steam Recording - Disable Steam Input - Disable Steam Shader Pre-caching - Delete %temp% destiny 2 files - Limit in-game FPS to as low as 30 - Set all in-game Settings to their lowest - Update Windows PowerToys - Disable Windows PowerToys I am sure I have missed somethings but that's what I can remember right now. With the devastating news that Destiny 2 is not only no longer going to be receiving any more content updates but won't even be receiving any bug fixes moving forward after I believe one more patch (and obviously the tragic near complete decimation of the employees on the Destiny team) has me so scared that destiny 2 is gonna be left eternally in a broken, nearly unplayable state. This game means so much to me I can't even put it into words, so the thought that I might not even be able to play moving forward is honestly depressing. I really hope that this isn't the case and it will be fixed but I am scared that is sadly very unlikely if not impossible after everything that's happened. It can't hurt to at least report the issue no matter how unlikley getting a fix might be, obviously I really hope it's not a lost cause. Please If there is any thing you need from me that would help diagnose and potentially fix the issue let me know!

 • Hello there, Thanks for the detailed report. This does line up with the broader PC problems players have been reporting since 9.7.0.2, especially on Steam. We’ve seen reports of major performance regressions, stuttering, frame pacing issues, and cases where normal troubleshooting or lowering settings does not seem to help. I could not verify this exact hard-crash pattern as a specifically confirmed known issue, but it does not sound like an isolated setup problem based on the timing and how many steps you have already tried. Since you already tested most of the usual fixes, the most useful next steps would be: include your crash folders from %temp% include whether Event Viewer shows an Application Error for destiny2.exe note whether disabling the Steam Overlay changed anything at all, since Steam-specific behavior has been part of the current investigation path Thanks again for taking the time to document all of this so clearly.
