I haven’t really gotten into the lore since witch queen, but I just started playing renegades and… the story is like super, super bad. Like really bad. I’m glad that Bael killed his ally at the end of that first mission though, otherwise I wouldn’t have known he was a bad guy.
Anyways I’ve been sitting through these horrible horrible phone conversations. It’s just “I feel, I feel, I feel,” like we’re sitting in on a mass murderers therapy session. Who cares? Why is this the focus? What happened to Xivu? I distinctly recall my character being the soldier, the weapon, basically just carrying out mission after mission, and it was great. Why am I listening to two dudes I don’t care about talking about how being possessed by things I don’t care about makes them feel? I don’t care? Just get me Zavala or -blam!- I don’t know shiro 4 on comms and have them tell me where to go to kill the guy. We did this whole thing with crow and it was already boring then, we literally spent like 3 years rehabilitating a dude and listening to him (a grown man) speak with various others (grown men) about their feelings. I. Don’t. Care. Let me fight a god without talking about tea parties or whatever stupid bs Lodi has to say in my ear. I don’t know who is writing this -blam!- but it has fallen off so hard. It’s like I’m back in class at uni with 90% women just talking about how whatever was said by whichever professor or classmate makes them feel. It’s the most inane, bland, pointless drivel to ever be put into a sci-fi/fantasy SHOOTER. I don’t know why the narrative has pivoted in this direction other than it just being a way to pad out audio/quest time without actually adding more gameplay into the mix. Like 25 out of 45 missions in the renegades quest are ‘go here and listen to this’ and it’s just listening to Lodi or drifter or bael or Hell even eris talk about their feelings.

I actually felt this way as well.. I really wasn't behind the stories in EOF and Renegades.. I see the Lore in D2 being better.. behind the scenes universe building.. .. but the stories are of mixed quality... especially when they had to connect in season/episodes.. maybe we should look at it more like an anthology series instead of a connected story... I always wondered that about the raids and dungeons.. why wasn't there a running story as you are going through... anyway thats why PVP :)

1 ReplyCouldn't agree more. The lore is pretty good though.

Edited by MC 077 Lasombra: 6/9/2026 8:57:31 PMThey don’t have the chops. Making a lore entry sound good is easy, making an in game story about the lore is hard. I mean besides the family therapy crap it was a bunch of jargon word salad to boot. Every studio that did this hiring shift has been pumping out bad games and losing money.

1 ReplyYou don’t like tween melodrama ? Sadly that’s what it became.

6 RepliesYou're lucky you missed having to collect pieces of Nezerac for Saint 14 to make tea to heal Osiris with. It. Was. God. Awful.

1 ReplyThe lore’s always been full of gold, but it gets converted into teen drama. I preferred D1’s “I don’t have time to explain why I don’t have time to explain” to D2’s emotional diarrhoea. I guess the “show, don’t tell” maxim got lost somewhere. Not just in Destiny, but in lots of places. It seems to be a bit of a trend at the moment.

They turned Space opera into soap opera. The lore has always been great, it was always the execution that was the problem.

1 ReplyLoL it took you 10 years to see this?

If there ever is a D3 they definitely need to summarize the major plot points and connect the threads. The lore is actually very interesting but it's so very convoluted that, much like the game, people can quickly get overwhelmed and confused.

4 RepliesIf you're playing for the story, you're playing the wrong game

2 RepliesEdited by Bro'sef, Kell of Gopniks: 6/8/2026 11:32:07 PMEverytime I just think of the Robot Devil from Futurama. "YOU CANT JUST HAVE YOUR CHARACTERS ANNOUNCE HOW THEY FEEL! THAT MAKES ME FEEL ANGRY!"

2 RepliesNah its cool and youre just wrong

12 RepliesIt all started when they turned Osiris from a legendary exiled warlock beast into......that The framework of the campaigns are good, its the little things they sprinkle in that ruin it

I played the beginning that they allow you and when I saw the character talking with bubbles I thought "wow, that's cheap". So I didn't buy it. It's such a shame, a wonderful game like Destiny could've went on for years more with the right support and the right funding.

1 ReplyI have enjoyed all the DLCs. Maybe because I’m not all into the “lore”.🤷♀️
-
3 RepliesHow does that make you feel?

3 RepliesIt's not to bad It just requires context.... And most players don't have access to any of the old stories... So it's not going to make any sense to many people even if they look it up as lots of dialogue was never archived even in lore videos...
