Greetings fellow Guardians. Not too long ago, I asked out about the mida catalyst's actual drop source, and I got an answer that was clear enough. So I'm going to try my luck again, this time with graviton.
So, I know the source is 'strikes and crucible' , however I have done a plethora of strikes by now, getting many catalysts on the way, but not for graviton. I know graviton and sunshot's catalyst are notoriously hard to obtain, but I got the sunshot catalyst from xur, so I never got to know which exact activity it drops from.
That begs a couple of questions: does graviton's catalyst have a ridiculously low drop chance? I already have all but one (rat king) catalyst obtained from 'strikes' or 'strikes against most challenging opponents', so is graviton's catalyst just incredibly rare? another question i have is: which specific type of strike can drop it? is it only vanguard ops? only nightfall? only map strikes?
Any help on this would be appreciated, as waiting for xur to sell it is not very reliable.
Cheers, Guardians

2 RepliesHow many catalysts have you completed, this sounds wild but it’s actually not confirmed but I found weirdly it worked for me…when I was trying to get catalysts back in the day I found if I completed ones I already had then others I needed would drop quickly. Like I said that’s not confirmed it works but weirdly I found multiples times it worked for me.

Xur, Vanguard or crucible.

1 ReplyEdited by Peloquinsoul: 6/2/2026 9:56:52 AMYeah the ones that came from Faction Rallies have always had a weirdly low drop rate. Farming for catalysts, never mind a specific one can be kinda brutal. Also, the completed catalysts thing a few people have mentioned is absolutely not true. My buddy has maybe 1 or 2 completed and somehow always got the new ones before me and I've got everything but Mida and Jade Rabbit done.

1 ReplyI don't think it's extremely rare, but it is rare enough for rng to really screw you over. Unlike the mida multi tool catalyst, there's unfortunately no way to increase your chances of getting it to drop, so you are at the mercy of rng, whether it be from a drop or xur selling it in his weekly rotating inventory. As for the type of strike, I think it can drop from any source within the vanguard ops strike playlists. I'm unsure if it can drop if you select a strike manually from a destination, so I'd stick with one of the playlists just to be safe

1 ReplyWell, you can check Xur regularly, too. One other thing, do you have many other Catalysts waiting to be completed? There is this "myth" that if you have too many left to complete, new Catalysts won't drop until you do.
