# Destiny’s Future — A Frontier Expansion Concept
To the Bungie Team,
I’ve no idea if this is the right place for this, but this isn’t a complaint about Destiny’s current direction. It’s simply an idea from a long-time Guardian who wants to see the universe continue to evolve rather than fade away.
One of Destiny’s greatest strengths has always been its worldbuilding. Over the years we’ve explored incredible locations, fought amazing enemies, and followed some fantastic characters. But despite the scale of the lore, gameplay still mainly revolves around repeatable activities inside relatively controlled spaces.
My idea isn’t for a Destiny 3 reset, but for Destiny 2 itself to evolve.
## Core Concept
A major story event opens a stable wormhole or gateway into an entirely new frontier of space.
This wouldn’t replace Destiny 2, but instead act as a new “directory” or expansion layer within the game itself, allowing players to keep everything they’ve already earned:
* gear,
* cosmetics,
* achievements,
* and progression.
Instead of restarting the universe, Destiny becomes a platform that keeps expanding.
## What Makes This Different
The new frontier could focus heavily on:
* exploration,
* discovery,
* larger open environments,
* and living ecosystems.
Imagine giant alien or prehistoric-style creatures roaming maps:
* some hostile,
* some passive,
* some simply part of the world itself.
Destiny’s lore already supports mysterious lifeforms like Worm Gods and Ahamkara, but this could push the universe into something that feels far more alive and unpredictable.
## Flight Gameplay
One thing players have wanted for years is meaningful ship gameplay.
Ships currently feel mostly cosmetic, but this expansion could introduce:
* atmospheric flight missions,
* co-op ship combat,
* aerial boss encounters,
* canyon runs,
* traversal gameplay,
* and exploration-focused flying systems.
Not a hardcore flight simulator, just cinematic and accessible gameplay that expands Destiny beyond being purely a shooter while still preserving Bungie’s incredible gunplay.
## Why I Think It Matters
I genuinely think this could open Destiny to an entirely new audience:
* sci-fi exploration fans,
* open-world players,
* vehicle combat fans,
* and players looking for large-scale cooperative experiences.
At the same time, it keeps the existing Destiny community together instead of forcing another reset.
I understand there would be major technical challenges involved, but I believe something like this could be introduced gradually over multiple expansions rather than all at once.
Destiny has one of the richest sci-fi universes in gaming, and I honestly believe there’s still huge potential for it to become something even bigger than it already is.
I know this probably won’t go anywhere, but Cayde-6 would’ve said to take the shot anyway.
Thank you to everyone at Bungie for creating a universe that has entertained me and my kids for years.
