I absolutely adore Third Iteration, and has been made clear through dev comments before, it was an early rendition on heat weapons. It would be awesome if it finally gets changed over to a full blown heat weapon for the final update as it's my favorite exotic in the game and one I'll rarely go without.

What would changing it to a heat weapon do to functionally improve it?

1 ReplyI hope not as it works perfectly as it is now. All it needs is a small buff.

Edited by viiTactiiCZz: 5/29/2026 2:14:42 PMThis was covered at the beginning of December by Mercules. It'd likely need the gun to be near-completely rebuilt from the ground up. Fast forward to now, which given the current situation of the game, and them having to work on the other guns etc for the final update - the chance is near absolute 0 it'll be done for the it.
Hello there! Just stopping by as I’m the designer of both Third Iteration and the heat system in D2, so I’ve got a bit of skin in this game! We’d love to do that but in the backend unfortunately it’s not quite as simple as it may seem (like it so often is). Third Iteration was a bit of a hybrid, in that we used existing parts and kitbashed them together to test a bunch of stuff in preparation for the real heat system, which was built later. Because of that, Third Iteration is extremely bespoke in terms of how things like audio, VFX, animations, and even its perks are set up. Swapping it over to the heat system would likely result in us having to rebuild almost the entire weapon from the ground up to use the new system’s parts. That’s quite a bit of work for multiple teams to bite off, so while I won’t say we will never do it, it may have to wait for a more opportune time.
