I will play the final update for sure.
However.
I appreciate they have poured everything they had into this final update but as far as Bungie goes as a company, I will never purchase a single game they release unless it is anything Destiny related.
Spitefully, I hope Marathon fails purely out of principle. They chose to prioritise a game that continuously had negative feedback at the expense of D2. D2 is being shut down while it still has untapped potential. Bungie killed it with the terrible cheap decisions such as “Matterspark” and “Portal”.
Now you reap what you sow. I hate that it has cost everyone D2 but it is what it is.
I hope Sony wakes up and realises that D3 has immense interest from the community and that once they restructure Bungie or fully absorb it, they start the ball rolling for early D3 planning.
Marathon will be dead within the next year. If it isn’t, I will genuinely be astounded.
Goodbye Guardians.

1 ReplyMarathon developers worked hard on the game and had nothing to do with what happened to Destiny 2 but yes let's punish the developers and be happy that so many of them will be getting laid off and not the higher ups that are the actual problem
-
Marathon is going to burn. The player count is dropping. No one cares and 99.9% of destiny players will not touch marathon. We're all going to sit back and watch bungie suffer for their decisions. And burn. They picked a -blam!- extraction shooter that will never recoup its budget over their flagship franchise. Had they used those resources on Destiny. They'd have a much larger player base.

1 ReplyI might buy marathon see what it's like hell why not I might end up liking it.
-
“Destruction AllStars” (published by “Sony Interactive Entertainment“) gets Server Shutdown & Delisted…another First-Party Online Service game dead. Who said we shouldn’t blame “SONY” 🤡
-
"Spitefully, I hope Marathon fails purely out of principle." There is no prinicple to this. Just butt pain and brain death.
-
They sold their car for gas money.
-
What I don't understand is how a company whose sole objective was to become "a multiple game studio" cancels their most popular game just 3 months after they achieve their goals. How bad are the leadership at this place?! The mismanagement is on an epic scale.
-
Same here. Not touching marathon even if free.

Hope they just close bungie down or maybe revamp honestly. Not in the glory age anymore. -
10 RepliesDude "Destiny 2 has not changed, it has become clear that after The Final Shape, we have reached the time for our shared worlds, and Destiny, to live beyond Destiny 2." Its right there man they are making another destiny game

3 RepliesEdited by ConvictedSnail: 5/24/2026 1:37:50 PMWhat yall don’t get is that hating on marathon only pushes d3 farther away. If you guys just review bomb the game do you magically think that Sony will say “oh okay let’s make d3 instead”? No, they will lose even more trust and prevent them from making more stuff. Think logically, acting in emotion will only dig everyone a bigger hole

The Shill Squad are still in denial while the developers are filing for unemployment 🤡

2 RepliesMarathon is not a bad game, it is just the type of game a destiny plater would like, maybe that pve mode will bring some back, I personally do not like the idea of losing my gear, but the pve part seems interesting considering gameplay is good. We have to see how things go, but for marathon to properly succeed it needs to change, same as how vanilla d2 did, which let’s be honest it was horrible the first year.

2 RepliesEdited by Ulzana: 5/23/2026 1:56:40 PMWith D2's death announced, nearly 12k flocked to play PC Marathon on a Friday night. :) In a year there will still be more people playing D1 and D2 than Marathon. A glorious failure by the most corrupt and predatory game company in all the land.
-
3 RepliesAgree with everything you said. Except I don’t think it’ll take a year. Season 2’s numbers will be the kicker. I’m expecting less than half of the launch peak numbers. Marathon is already dead. We will wait and see if it can be resuscitated. I doubt it.

2 RepliesNothing lasts forever. For those who haven't figured it out yet, Marathon is Destiny 3👍😎 . Surprise. Now go play it and make it successful. I heard people are review bombing it. I can't assist with old gen console. Bungie will create some more inclusive crap for pve and coop casuals. Salt btw🧂 gives u high blood pressure.

4 RepliesMarathon has already failed...

3 RepliesThem killing Destiny, only drive me to hate marathon more.
-
1 ReplyD3 will be more of the same, there's no longer enough player demand for the franchise. I'd be very surprised if D3 gets the green light.
-
If they are eventually making a D3 most people won't buy it simply because the same people that (mis)shaped D1 and D2 made it nearly impossible to make a 3rd good game. I think Sony just wants to use parts of this franchise for other games and perhaps create a new game with parts of Destiny without attaching the name Bungie to it. Bungie killed a franchise with tremendous potential despite millions of players getting disappointed time after time and coming back time after time spending more money on a suicidal franchise. It's not that Bungie made one (big) mistake, it's a lot of mistakes and most were handled very poorly. They listened to the wrong people and were led by the wrong people. It's really a shame, but I enjoyed most of it ...
-
1 ReplyThe sad thing about Marathon failing, and Bungie, is that the people paying the price are not the people who made the mistakes.
-
It already has failed.
-
3 RepliesIndeed, I feel its a massive bad decision on top of a mountain of them. I don't know if Marathon will ever have mass appeal, or how much money Bungie will burn though trying to objectively make Marathon a hit game. If the content had been the after The Final Shape, the players would have came back. EoF was some sort of Alan Wake, mobile version of Destiny x Marble Madness. I am fascinated, this should be a case study and taught as one of the all time biggest bad gambles in the industry thus far. See you in the next life

8 RepliesIn less than 8hours more than 25 000 sign a petition for d3 to be made. That is double the players base in Marathon right now. Now we're looking at over 47 thousand signature. https://www.change.org/p/petition-sony-to-develop-destiny-3

1 ReplyDestiny 2 has been winding down for years. Bungie made so many mistakes one can write a book about it. Sorry, but Marathon will not be different. Because it's the same developer. Honestly, I hope they have learned something in the process and that it will help them with structuring Marathon correctly, but I also doubt that. Because history repeats itself, like it did with small content packages for Destiny 2 and a collapse of the studio like they had at the beginning of Destiny 2. I wanted to finish Destiny 2, like I said to myself when they introduced the content vault and sunsetting. And I will not buy anything else from Bungie. It's enough. That being said, I can understand the decision from a studio perspective to go on with Marathon. But the way they handled and ended Destiny 2 is just borderline. And for me, as a (Destiny 2) player of 10 years, it's just not acceptable. It was an ongoing up and down for years. And that with something that should simply be fun.

1 ReplyA new Destiny IP would have been an absolute hit. After so many other extraction shooters have failed, and many others are falling out of favor, its a mystery why Sony doubled down on Marathon. It should be fairly clear that Marathon is unwanted, not profitable and will never be acceptable by the greater community. If they continue down this rabbit hole, it won't be long before we see the end of Bungie completely. What a way to flush millions of dollars down the toilet, congrats.
