Furious at management, grateful for the developers who tried.

With the announcement today that destiny 2 is now in maintenance mode I wanted to say thank you to the developers who tried. Management, you let your teams down, you let your employees down, you let the community down. Repeatedly. You had a passionate devoted fan base and you neglected them. Repeatedly. You had developers who had things they wanted to do in the game that paying customers wanted and you told them no. Repeatedly. You told all of us over and over again that you were listening snd you were committed to improving things. You did none of that. Say it with me everyone!?!?!?! Repeatedly. You made the same mistakes time and again and just thought we would continue to forgive you and to trust Bungie no matter what. Speaking purely for myself, it’s clear just what kind of a company you are and how Bungie is not to be trusted. (See sunsetting paid content, over delivery is bad, and no executive bonus cuts to save people’s jobs because Bungie is not that type of company) The let down a lot of people are feeling is real, and yeah it’s just a game, it’s also something people put a lot of time in to and they enjoyed it and wanted to see reach its potential. Sadly, due to the decisions of the MANAGEMENT of Bungie, that was ruined. Developers. We know a lot of you tried and tried hard too, we appreciate what you did, what you tried to do, and how you were hamstrung by tech like the tiger engine. We see you. We thank you, and we hope things improve for you. Hope everyone had a great day, it’s sad, this is not the ending this all deserved.

  • They are all in on it. You are a wallet to them. They neglected destiny 2 to make marathon and put the money and resources into marathon. They made bad choices to get players to jump to marathon. Look how that turned out.

  • And another management is 100% at fault and the developers did nothing wrong post. If you have not figured it out ye, there are devs who contributed to the mess; and if you believe otherwise you are being naive. No dev who helps write code, test, design, develop etc is guiltless in this down fall!

  • Don't try defending the devs as if they are innocent. They have been caught numerous times lying about being restricted, being unable to implement ideas or even pitching ideas. Easy examples of this are all the times the devs blamed activision for preventing them from making design choices which turned out to be completely false as in the contract it stated bungie had complete creative control. The devs making claims about deadlines being impossible to meet which again was false as the devs set the deadlines and it was activisions studios that were left waiting for information to be sent to them from bungie. Or how about the entirety of shadowkeep being the exact image the bungie devs wanted it to be and them making that exact statement in the vidoc for shadowkeep only for them to turn around and make the excuse how they were limited again when the dlc fell flat on its face. In short the devs are nothing hut a bunch a two faced liars that dont know how to take accountability for subpar work.

  • The devs that tried were gone years ago, at a point there was more people that cared about being social justice activists than making a good video game. Im not even hating on their perspective, just pointing out that it is a failing strategy in this area of business.

Oh, please. "The devs that tried" were let go years ago; you've seen the people they dragged out onto their ViDocs like the rest of us did. You know, the guy giddy that players were frustrated with his anti-fun modifiers and promising to design more of them? The people confused about their own genders trying to tell us all how cool something else they don't understand is? The "adults" that can't even describe what's changing but are so dang excited for the changes? There were no devs left that cared and there were barely any that did to begin with. The studio has been a husk for a long time and this is the final result of it having no residual life left remaining to continue animating the corpse.

  • The “Devs who tried” were the creators of Halo and the OG D1 crew who left or were fired decades ago. The blue hair people there now and those ABOUT to be fired are NOT those devs and deserve every ounce of spite and anger they get.

    • Unfortunately, this is what happens when you saturate a company with weird ESG DEI identity politics instead of common sense. That and abandoning merit based business practices that cater to the loyal core customer base in favor of chasing their imaginary "modern audience" unicorn. Welcome to the new age. It sure is fun.

    • Probably the management hired developers for diversity and not for quality.

    • I've just had a dabble on the old Destiny, started to build up a Hunter...it's been a blast. However, the thing that hit hard were the cut scenes, landing on Mars, flying to the Last City, arriving at the tower, meeting the Speaker for the first time. .There is nothing whatsoever in Destiny 2 that comes close to the uniqueness of the original....so much potential, so much detail and most importantly so much fun to be had. FFS Bungie what did you do to drop the ball so badly? Regardless of whether the game was 1 year or 12 years down the line it still had the possibility with a passionate, imaginative group to continue the stories, bring in places like Old Chicago, somewhere which has been mentioned time and time again. But no, we had the treadmill of seasons which never worked, was so friggin boring, endless repetitive tasks providing mundane weapons and armor. No imagination just drip feeding. The gamers saw what was happening, raised concerns and were simply lied to. Those who complained in an effective, cutting way were subsequently banned for a week, for a month by non descript, faceless Ninjas, verily the censors from Orwell's 1984. Marathon will fail, the wrong option was chosen by money grabbing execs for a game which to the majority is an abomination. Now, when harsh reality digs into both Sony and Bungie we now see a feeble, purple attempt to introduce a PVE aspect into the latest pile of dung, all to tempt more gamers in, it's laughable. The bright space dust enlightened freshness that Bungie once had, has long gone, those brilliant creators who made it possible so to have gone. I should've known, as soon as the PC brigade took over Destiny was doomed .... I will now await the final content and have returned to my old clan to go out with one last great hurrah...for you Bungie, the cliff awaits ...

    • What finally killed this game was implementing a new armor system, tiered weapons and a monotonous grind inside the portal all at the beginning of the exact same season. Not to mention, kicking off a new campaign with nothing new except an imitation of Screw attack from Metroid that can only be used in one place. Edge of Fate had zero appeal to new players and basically sunset current players’ arsenals. Again. Finally, the game is just too big to balance and has run its course.

Well hey there pal *eats lightning bolt* - old

All they had to do was release this update in March. In my opinion, what they did is insane. Sparrow racing, pantheon, bringing back the director, that's all stuff that we wanted right? But they did it way too late. They pushed it off for "quality of life changes" when they should have released it and possibly saved this game. Forgive me if you think I'm wrong, these are just my honest thoughts.

      • The game's almost 10 years old. You can't reinvent the wheel. Each time they tried something new like Metroidania/matterspark people would complain.

True that failure starts at the top and trickles it’s way down. Luke Smith, Pete Parsons and many others haven’t helped. Arguably, Chris Barrett implemented some of the best “content” in D1 and reversed the double primary BS along with bringing back random rolls, too bad he ended up being a slimeball. How many times have you heard, “games are hard to make, Bungie need more time, expectations are unrealistic” etc. well, if you say it’s too hard to do a job long enough eventually you’ll find yourself without a job🤷‍♂️.

          • Youre late. The devs that tried got laid off years ago. Remember when bungie said “we kept the right people”. Same people that gave us everything we didn’t ask for, then ignored our complaints entirely. Yea, good people, that dev team. They can put the fries in the bag for all i care.

              • Nah. -blam!- the devs too. It's easy to blame the managment, but don't kid yourself, everyone from the CEO to the toilet plunger has a hand in this. And this is EXACTLY the ending all of this deserved.
