It's not improving anything. It never did. CBMM needs a permanent stay in all Playlist or open skill for all Playlist as the guys at bungie classify it. We are tired of SBMM.

1 ReplyI repost this I posted earlier in a different thread: What I'd like to know, instead, is how the matchmaking really works: in the last couple of weeks I routinely match an American streamer in Control; we are clearly not in the same skill brackets, not even close brackets I'd say, he is in the USA, I'm in southern Europe and don't use VPNs or proxies, it's my local Internet connection... Right now there are supposedly around 1600 players in Control, that's to say well over 100 different matches going on in their various stages; how come I get matched with that guy day in day out, over and over again?

The connection in this game doesn't feel great whether its SBMM or CBMM. CBMM is nice for a bit but it gets boring, SBMM gives you a challenge and lets you improve by constantly playing decent players, or players at around your skill anyway. You want matches to be hard. I think when people complain about connection and advocate CBMM they just want easy games because I don't really notice the difference in connection either way and it's not like it used to be it's pretty loose you still get a variety of skill level.

21 RepliesEdited by NotCreative123: 5/8/2026 4:07:19 PMFrom Bungie TWAB: We see the question a lot: Why can’t all the non-Competitive playlists just use open skill? Having all of them previously run matchmaking with no skill restrictions made the PvP experience worse for our newer and more casual players, to the extent that when we added some form of skill-based matchmaking to our Control and Iron Banner playlists, we saw a significant increase in playtime and retention from those groups of players. Keeping new and casual players engaged with our Crucible ecosystem is critical for the population to avoid stagnation or deflation and for it to stay healthy for players of all skill levels in the long term. And: Our matchmaking systems do not: * Individually force players to a 1.0 kill-death ratio or 50%-win ratio. * Intentionally allow players to dominate for a few games, then place them into games where they get destroyed. * Sacrifice connection quality for skill or any other filter. >Our three most common matchmaking systems (outlier protection, rank-based, and open skill) all keep average connection quality generally within the same bounds. >In fact, outlier protection and rank-based have, on average, slightly better connection quality than open skill, due to the increased time they remain in the optimal connection bracket while searching for matches. Source: https://www.bungie.net/7/en/News/article/this-week-in-destiny-02-22-24 EDIT: The biggest and most important disadvantage of SBMM is tht queue times are longer, especially for players in the margins.

12 RepliesBe careful what you wish for. The combination of your combat rating and KD respectfully tells me that you’re average at best. Asking for this would definitely expose your account to players who are far above your skill range, and you might not like what you’re asking for. You might not like this answer, but you’re probably benefiting from SBMM more than you think.

Disagree. We needed tighter SBMM if anything. It’s too late now though. Game is basically over without massive refocusing on D2 from Bungo. -
4 RepliesEdited by Fighting Lion: 5/9/2026 4:42:00 PMWhat game mode has SBMM? The closest is Outlier protection in control, which can only be at best considered ‘light SBMM’, and serves to keep lesser skill players from being completely stomped with little chance to fight back, for an example of this experience, Que any connection based game mode, such as lockdown (last week) or whatever game modes are available this week.

4 RepliesNo, we are tired of Seal Clubbers! What have you got against playing someone at the same level as yourself?
-
1 ReplyNo. SBMM > CBMM.

40 RepliesYou have 6k lifetime PvP kills, js. Doesn't seem like you play too much Crucible anyways.

Nahhh

I agree. We should bring back super smash bros melee. Only captain falcon can save this dead game.

6 RepliesWhat sbmm? Also there's no CBMM. The whole matchmaking is random.
