Cross Save Issues

I'm at my wit's end here, not much hope for a solution but I'm here anyway. A while back now I turned on cross save and among others, linked my PlayStation account to my bungie account, which I now regret since in the moment I forgot that my wife uses that same PSN account to play Destiny as well. Dumb of me, I know. I thought disabling cross save would fix things, which to an extent it did, but now whenever we want to play together we tend to run into issues joining each other's fireteam, meaning whoever logs on first won't see the other as being online, and we both also end up having the same in-game display name so it ends up being confusing to other fireteam members during activities like raids and whatnot. I know about the whole thing where Bungie isn't letting anyone unlink accounts anymore, but like why? Also is there really nothing that can be done at this point? The only solution that I can see right now is making entirely new accounts/guardians, but we've both spent too much money on DLCs and stuff to even consider that
Also is there really nothing that can be done at this point?
Correct, you would have had to unlink the PSN account prior to March 25th 2025. Bungie will not unlink it for any reason. Your options going forward would be: - Keep going with the current but annoying setup, or - One of you changes to a new platform account + Bungie account and starts over.
I know about the whole thing where Bungie isn't letting anyone unlink accounts anymore, but like why?
Their reasoning for it is:
Our goal is to protect the integrity of our players' accounts, simplify certain security systems, prevent fraud, and limit activities that go against our Terms of Service.
They basically got tired of people linking accounts they didn't own, getting recovs through account linking, emblem sharing etc so disabled it for everyone. Marathons cross-save being enabled by default also likely plays a part in the change.
