Parental controls

I am trying to play with my son. He has sent an invite for me to accept, when I click accept I go through the KWS dance and get an email confirming I am verified. The invite still persists though and I can't allow party chat. How can I fix this?

  • Hello there, Thank you for reaching out. This usually means one of two things: 1) the parent account is KWS-verified but not actually linked to the child account, or 2) the platform’s own parental controls are still blocking chat. Walk through these in order: 1. Re-do the Bungie.net / KWS link cleanly On your child’s account Have your son sign in at https://www.bungie.net/permissions with the exact account he uses in-game. Click “Invite a parent/guardian” and generate a new invite link (or QR). Send that link to you. On your parent account 4. In a browser, sign out of everything, then sign into bungie.net with your own adult account, not your child’s. 5. In the same browser, open the invite link your son sent. 6. You should see a Bungie Parental Controls page with your child listed as a pending family member. 7. Click Accept, then complete the KWS verification (face scan / card / SSN4). When it succeeds, you should be sent back to Bungie.net and see your child listed under “My Family Members” on the Parental Controls page. If you don’t see your child there, the link/assignment step didn’t complete, even if KWS emailed “verified”. Tips that often fix stuck invites: Do this in a fresh/private/incognito window with ad-blockers off and cookies/tracking allowed for the session. Don’t switch devices/browsers mid-flow; the pending invite is stored with that browser. 2. Enable Destiny 2 chat in Bungie Parental Controls Once your child appears under My Family Members on Bungie.net Parental Controls: Select your child. Turn on: Allow Voice Chat Access Allow Text Chat Access (if desired) Save changes. Have your son fully close Destiny 2 and relaunch so new permissions are picked up. 3. Check console / platform parental controls Even if Bungie’s controls are correct, PSN / Xbox / Steam settings can still block chat. On your son’s platform account: Check the platform’s communication / voice chat or privacy & online safety settings. Make sure he is allowed to: Join voice chat with friends (and, if you want, others) Use game chat (not just party chat) On PS5 specifically, ensure “Mute Game Voice Chat” is disabled in Sound/Voice Chat settings, and that party chat isn’t set to always override game chat. 4. If the invite still won’t clear or chat is still blocked If, after all of the above: The invite on your child’s side still shows as pending, or Your child appears under your family on Bungie.net but in-game chat is still disabled, then this is likely a backend issue and not something you can fix locally. In that case: Go to the public article “Date of Birth Requirements for Destiny 2 and Bungie Services” on Bungie Help. Use the contact form linked there for Parental Controls / Age Gate issues, and include: Your Bungie Name Your child’s Bungie Name That KWS shows you as verified, but the invite persists and party chat remains blocked. Support can then check and correct the link/permissions on the backend.
