As an avid Destiny fan, when I first watched the original Alien and thwn its sequels and prequels: Aliens, Prometheus, Alien: Covenant, Alien: Romulus (I like to pretend Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection were never made. Life is better that way.), I fell in love with the franchise and all of its DNA that went on to influence sci-fi for decades, especially this game which pretty much rips straight from it at times (looking at you Hive, Clovis Bray). By far though, my favorite of the franchise are the prequels. The lore, story, visuals, music, acting, etc. I love it all, especially Michael Fassbender’s character David. Nothing like an android with a god complex to really bring a movie together. The unique blend of sci-fi, cosmic horror, and Paradise Lost-style epic myth Ridley Scott has created is a potent combo, but unfortunately we only get to experience 2/3 of its story and David’s arc after the third movie that was rumored to be titled Alien: Awakening was shelved after Fox deemed Covenant to under perform. Instead of making the finale to the trilogy, they decided to shelve it after fan blowback about the trilogy not being traditionally Alien enough (because traditionally Alien worked so well for the latter half of the original franchise.) To me, having such an interesting trilogy still incomplete almost 10 years later is such a sad fact and seems like the biggest missed opportunity. Especially after recent productions like Romulus and Earth that tie in elements from the prequels, I feel it’s time for the trilogy to finally be complete with a proper third act.
