I am getting code MARMOT when I launch Destiny 2. It crashes, Steam, my EVGA GPU fan controller software, and the NVIDIA control panel will crash and reboot.
Computer: Win 10 LTSC, 17 12th, 32GB RAM, 3080TI. I have been running this setup since Jan 23 without issue. I nuked and paved the system in November and have had no issues until today.
I have tried:
-Verify Integrity of Files.
-Delete all files except Packages
-Delete Temp files
-Roll back Windows update
-Completely delete and downloaded D2 (140GB)
-DDU graphics clean erase and install
Windows Event Viewer will show me: "The NVIDIA Display Container LS service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 6000 milliseconds: Restart the service." I have yet to be able to find a good answer for why and how to prevent.
I can launch Helldivers2 via Steam and Division via Ubisoft Connect at the same time and there are no issues, so I leads me to believe this is a D2 specific issue.
Any and all help would be appreciated.
EDIT: I was able to run D2 without issue on Thursday March, 5th. I am looking into any Windows updates that were released and uninstalling them.

2 RepliesTry the Epic launcher version (the Free-to-play version is enough, you don't need to activate Cross-Save, just see if the game works fine there), if it still happens then there is some incompatibilty between the game and your current setup. If it works fine instead, well, there is something wrong with your Steam version (maybe change Steam location).

1 ReplyHi there, Thank you for reaching out. MARMOT on its own usually points to game file corruption. the next things to focus on are drivers, overlays, and overclocks: Strip it down (no overlays / tools / OC) Completely uninstall EVGA GPU tools (Precision X1 or similar), MSI Afterburner, RTSS, any RGB or third‑party monitoring/overlay software, and even GeForce Experience for a test. Make sure no GPU/CPU overclocks are active (including XMP/overclock profiles); run everything at stock and try launching Destiny 2 again. Try a different NVIDIA driver branch If you’re on the latest Game Ready, try installing a slightly older WHQL driver; if you’re already on an older one, try the latest clean install again, but: Choose Custom → Clean installation, and Only install the driver + PhysX, leaving GeForce Experience unchecked. Check system health Run sfc /scannow in an elevated Command Prompt. Run DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth. Check Windows Event Viewer around the crash for any additional errors just before/after the NVIDIA Display Container entry (disk, nvlddmkm, etc.).

12 RepliesI started getting this same marmot error right when it tries to initialise the fullscreen video mode at the start of launching the game. It started right after the update on Tuesday 10th March 2026. I have nuked steam and game, tried installing in different steam root. Removed discord, vpn, destiny controller setup, scanned my HDD for errors, booted from USB to test memory modules with memtest. I've basically had a 3 day conversation with grok trying to fix this and nothing has helped. I have a crash_info.txt log file that reports: halt: RELEASE_VHALT halt information: The Steam API failed to initialize. fatal error detected, current status was: I'm at the point of giving up, grateful for any suggestions.
