Bungie name changed...

After starting the Marathon test my name was changed. This same thing happened about a year and a half ago. But I was later allowed to change it back to what I always used to have (JayBeeDee#4664). Bungie, what is going on? This is not ok =(

  • Hello there,  A name reset to default like that means it was detected or reported, reviewed by Bungie and reset to"Redacted####", that indicates that some part of the name broke the Code of Conduct or the Bungie Name Policy, was filtered, and cannot/should not be used again. When that happens, you get the new name cross play message in-game as notice of the name change. If you'd like to appeal your name change please view the Appeal Ban or Restriction Contact Form and make sure to select that your Bungie Name was changed.

    • Seeing how many people are affected by the name changes, it's likely a similar situation like we had last year with the unintended name changes. They screen the user names, some dial is miscalibrated and the search algo starts flagging all sorts of harmless letter combinations as "personal identifiable" information. In your case the algo might identify your name as a real name with a surname, while for a human it is obvious that it is a nickname and there is no way that is the name on your passport. Can only hope for you guys that it gets solved quicker this time than last time this bug was around.

    • I have had the same issue. Even though I was instantly able to change my name back to original - djcookie88 (from Redacted6501#5732), but after that, my Bungie ID has changed to #6501 which is totally weird, neither is ok. I have submitted an appeal via Contact Form, and I got a fast reply within 9 minutes, stated that previously applied enforcement was lifted and a name change was issued to me, marking the appeal as solved. In fact it did not solve my problem, because I can't change it to what it was before, with original name and Bungie ID -> djcookie88#5732. I know some people don't mind what their ID is, but I do. It also stirs up an additional unneeded frustration to the pot. To be honest, it killed all my mood and hype of playing the game right now.

    • Great first impression Bungie. You punish the players who were actually willing to give Marathon a shot. This'll go over well.

    • Same issue here, same name for close to a decade after starting D2. Only after downloading the Marathon beta has this become a problem.

    • same thing happened to me but after following the advice to appeal, i was then able to change it back to what it has always been (the random numbers will be different of course but that hardly matters), the appeal was speedy and within 15 minutes i had my name back. I understand its a bit of an inconvenience to have this happen to you and everyone else affected and obviously something seems fishy with the name detection system perhaps being a bit over strict but in the meantime until this is addressed as an issue by bungie and hopefully fixed so that others don't have to deal with it, the process to restore your name is rather quick and painless. i highly encourage you all to rip the band aid off and go through the appeal just to get it over with and wish you all the best of luck getting your names back and hopefully we hear back from bungie about what caused this in the first place and why it seems so widespread.
