I haven’t touched d2 since a little after the vespers host dungeon dropped with ice breaker and all that, but I’ve been thinking about getting back into it. Does anyone from the d2 community have any tips/advice for anything I should look out for if I return or whether yall think it would even be worth coming back to?

Wait till June bro when the update exotics

Come back in a few months

Renegades is fun but playing through EOF will feel like sawing off a limb. It’s an okay time to come back— with special emphasis on the timing? Because nothing’s really changed and there were definitely worse times to come back. Loot is in a good place, and there’s nothing on the horizon— so catchup comes fast? But depending on why you left, you might find that reason again quick.

As others have said, try the F2P stuff before considering buying anything they currently offer. I dropped the game right when EoF came out. I tell my friends that stopped after TFS that they left on a high note. Don't let whatever this new thing they call Destiny 2 sour what you enjoyed. They changed everything in EoF.

4 RepliesUnless you have active friends to play with, don't bother. Game is in the worst state its ever been in and there isnt really anything that indicates it will be dug out of the hole its in.

Stay gone, it's garbage. The active player count tells you everything you need to know.

Explore what you can without spending any money, firstly because Bungie doesn't deserve it and secondly to see if anything reignites your desire to play. Then decide on a return based on what activities you would want to explore and the likelyhood of being able to get a squad if needed. Most balanced suggestion I can think of as my kneejerk response would have been "Run away" ;)

The game is in a terrible state my friend.

I would agree that it’s actually a great time to jump back in. Doesn’t look like there will be any new content until June. So that will give you time to catch up on all the old expansions. All of the story missions are pretty good. And the grind to 550 isn’t bad, especially if you don’t mind jumping into crucible too. The game gives an overwhelming amount of loot especially if you’re at 550.

Edited by Obelix: 2/22/2026 8:22:00 PMContrary to other post below, I’d argue it’s a good time to return. We’re presently in between content, so it’s a slow period but that mean you’re not missing out on anything else as you explore the campaigns, Dungeons, farm new gear… And that gives you plenty of thing to do. Game is still fun, a lot of people including myself are just bored and burned after farming the last year.

Have fun 🎈. Renegades is good. Keep an eye out for Accelerated Assault weapons. Keep godroll Tier 4 weapons.

I think the people here prove the d2 community doesnt read. They all think this person is new because they only read the title. You basically left at the highest point in destiny just before the massive slam into the ground and if you want a tip. If you got friends the game can still be fun but solo has been made terrible. Dungeons and raids before edge of fate are farmable so if you need anything from em nows your chance. Primaries are in a TERRIBLE spot to the point its better to run double special even if you dont plan on using your other special because that's how bad they are rn. Melee got reworked. Hunters and Warlocks got some insane buffs Titans stayed about the same. Stat system got changed alongside armor and exotics use the old system till June at which point you'll need to grind new exotic armor as well. Portal is super boring but just about all there is to so rn. New free exotic mission with a really good exotic as the reward. Id recommend doing that. And weapons got reworked.

Do up to Beyond Light, unless Witch Queen is also f2p.

The tier system changed a lot. The main thing to know is that light level affects loot quality nothing to do with the type or difficulty of the activity. I would suggest keeping up to track with destiny - June there will be some changes that could drastically affect things again so I wouldn’t grind too hard. The most recent content is a Star Wars collab, it’s egregious but the activity an ld dungeon are good regardless

OP: Not sure if your possible return involves some extra costs or not, if it does - it might be worth going the F2P route, just so you can get a feel of things, rather than fork out big bucks straight away. You’re an experienced Guardian, going by your Seals…so you already know the game. The changes introduced since you were previously here, might come as a bit of a head scratcher?! You could always check with your clan mates…if they’re still around?! Take a glance over the various forums to get a broader perspective! Do all these things, and you’ll soon have the answers you seek! Just my 2d worth. Good luck! That is all. Ease Springs! 🖖👻 MTFBWY
