Who is this game for?
Destiny players?
No. That audience gets smaller by the hour as Bungie has neglected the game and offered no evidence of a future.
Additionally, Destiny players have seen YEARS of Bungie's FAILURES with pvp and Gambit. Why would any frustrated D2 player PAY $60-100 for the worst parts of D2?
Is Marathon ment for a new audience?
Well that would require marketing and something to set it apart from the dozen other extraction shooters. The ONLY thing Bungie has to set themselves apart is their name value which is now attached to ..... Destiny, an IP they are actively destroying.
I guess Marathon is supposed to be for gen X and millennial gamers who never played Destiny but remember Halo from middle school and college and now want to pick it up again 30 years later?....
Honestly at this point I'm wondering if there aren't accounting shenanigans going on behind the screens and Marathon isn't meant to be a massive tax write off.

I’m not sure who it’s for. Bungie’s reputation has been ground into the dirt by the direction they’ve taken D2 and how they’ve treated the D2 community. None of the other gamers I know are remotely interested in Marathon. They played Halo and loved it. They tried Destiny 2 and got pushed away from it for various reasons. They all pretty much have zero respect for Bungie and have no interest in anything they make any more. Which is quite an achievement considering how much positive sentiment they had for Bungie after Halo.
