It's been bugging me for a while but figured I'd finally write something. I am not a fan of how, when you come out of the Vault and go back to your Character screen, it goes into/stays in "Vault Mode." 99% of the time, if I've just grabbed something out of my vault, the literal next thing I'm going to do is click it to equip it. But if I do that without remembering to toggle out of Vault Mode, it just puts it right back in the Vault.
All last season/expansion (I believe), it was on the Known Issues List that it WASN'T sending us back to Vault Mode, and there was a note that you were letting it ride because people seemed to like it. I'm not sure why the change was made now, but I'm not a fan. And I find it hard to believe a lot of people like it (though I'm willing to be proven wrong). What is the purpose for coming out of the Vault and still being in Vault mode? How often are people pulling from their Vault to then go drop other things in as their next move?
Wildest example I had, during Arms week, I wanted to pull out Trinity Ghoul, wasn't sure if I still had it, so went to Vault, didn't see it, so left vault, went to Collections screen, pulled Trinity Ghoul from collections, went back to Character, clicked it...and it went to my Vault because somehow it was STILL in Vault Mode.
Anyway, I humbly request you revert this so it DOESN'T go into Vault Mode when you come out of the Vault. Please comment if you agree so maybe they see this (alternatively, if you love how it is now, please let me know what you like about it).
P.S. - I do love the Vault filtering/sorting system, I think that's an excellent addition and it's had me pulling from my Vault in-game instead of DIM way more often...but that's just made me run into this Vault Mode issue more frequently.

It’s funny cause when I’m in my vault I know it’s gonna happen, so when I grab a weapon to just throw it back cause it goes in vault mode for some ungodly reason, I let out a sigh of such disappointment. Not because the system and that it shouldn’t just put you in vault mode only because you went to grab something from your vault not put something in it, but because I was silly to think bungie could make something work right

I don't like it either. My brain doesn't want to reprogram into the nonsense that is having to toggle out of the vault while already out of the vault. My muscle memory is slowly conforming as we are all being assimilated into this nonsense but I still think I'm equipping when I'm in fact I'm sending my item right back into the vault.

This one has been driving me crazy, if I leave vault mode logically I probably want to be able to immediately equip what o pulled out. Even more stupid is sometimes even if I leave the menus from my vault, and then reopen my character screen it will sometimes still have me in vault mode. The upgrades to the vault and ability to use it in orbit are major steps foward, but then things like this are a perfect example of the long list of things that just make you go. "how on earth did you guys miss this?"

2 RepliesEdited by Uncle Fester: 2/11/2026 10:14:56 PMDumbest thing they ever did was make it selectable. No one asked for this, no one wanted this. But Bungie being bungie put something in the game that they think is an improvement. In the vault? pick something it goes to inventory, while in the vault open character screen pick something it goes to vault. That was simple, intuitive, easy. Did not need a major overhaul. That is how the game ran for a decade. Proven reliable code, so bungie breaks it. What did not work was a way to find stuff in the vault, now that needed a major overhaul and what they did works well. I can find anything in moments now, win, win, WIN! It is fantastic, so now I am waiting for bungie to "fix" it and it will be forever broken from that point forward. Edit, for me, if I am in the vault and I want transfer something to my character, it must say vault, and when I am on my character and I want to deposit something it must say character. -blam!- backwards!

Vault mode still being selected when you exit the vault is 1000% the most annoying issue I have with D2 right now. I can’t imagine how good it would feel if they finally fix it. Never accidentally putting a weapon/gear back into the vault sounds like heaven.

2 RepliesYou'd be surprised. People kept whining about the bug so they fixed it. I miss it dearly.

Yeah, same here, not a fan.

I just can't trust anything to work that this company introduces anymore --- you just know it won't work properly, or will break something else. Bungie could create bugs if they were crop-spraying a field of cabbages. And as for "known issues", has anyone noticed that those they say they've fixed are either the ones that give us a bit of an advantage, or ones we didn't know existed? The few times a week that I actually play now, I always boot up DIM before the game.

The amount of times I’ve pulled something from my vault only to send it right back… I’ve learned to expect it now, but definitely not a fan.

Glad to see I'm not the only one😂

Agreed!👍

True, true. Even though it's a minor issue.

1 ReplyEdited by LeluDallas MultiPass: 2/11/2026 7:47:57 PM
there was a note that you were letting it ride because people seemed to like it.
This. This is the problem. When Bungie added vault access in TFS, there were 2 separate buttons, one for "store" mode & one for "take" mode... but there was a bug upon release, that would force ppl into "store" mode after they backed out of "take" mode... apparently, tons of ppl got used to the bug, and never learned to correctly use the 2 separate buttons. When Bungie finally implemented a fix, a bunch of ppl started crying in the forums, threatening to quit, complaining that the vault was "broken" and that they "couldnt store anything"... when in actually it was finally working as intended & all they had to do was click L3 to ENTER "store" mode instead of waiting for the bug to force them from "take" mode into "store" mode. They had literally been doing it the incorrect/hard way for so long, that they couldnt understand how to use it the correct easier way. So, Bungie capitulated. They reverted it back to the broken way to appease all the complainers. I'm being hard on the complainers, I know, but the fault lies with Bungie. They should have never let the bug go on for so long that ppl actually believed it was the intended way. And when they finally fixed it, they should have never let all the complainers bully them into putting back a bug & abandoning the way they INTENDED it to operate. Seriously, how many other bugs are they gonna leave in, so that the internet people will like them ? Its like Bungie is run by teenage girls at this point.

Design a good system, manage to -blam!- up one of its functions anyways. #Bungie-ism

Took me a while, but I managed to rewrite that part of muscle memory. I still wiff it from time to time, but I'm mostly ok with it now. It is a strange situation tho. We got a brilliant vault service with filtering and they somehow managed to tag on a lil bit of dumb 🤪

1 ReplyHit L3 go activate vault mode…repeat to deactivate. Easy peasy! 😁 That is all. Ease Springs! 🖖👻 MTFBWY

9 RepliesEdited by GrayWolf: 2/11/2026 6:26:24 PMIt's the only way to store something in the vault in-game so they'd better not remove that. I am still baffled as to why I can no longer store anything whilst accessing the vault directly (e.g. in the Tower), that was a bad change.
