Did tier armor flop?

Just wanna know your opinion. I’ve had the thought for the first time to delete a character cause my vault is so hectic with armor 😂 (also it’d be my hunter for those curious 😂)

  • I don’t know that it flopped entirely, but I was very comfortable with some of my 4 and 5 year old armor sets. Those are now stored in my vault, just in case. I really like the Techsec and Swordmaster armor sets for my Titan. I have Techsec for my Warlock and Hunter too, but didn’t play enough on those characters at the time to get better rolls. Some of the armor sets don’t really offer much to my play style, or I’m just not interested in them, or both. I really wish we could attune to a specific armor set, rather than sets becoming unattainable. Just my $0.02.

    • They want you to collect every possible armour drop. You just know that the things that make grenade stat so powerful at the moment will get nerfed to oblivion and we’ll all need melee and health stat. It will happen.

    • There are a concerning number of people that think the Tier system only failed because T5 isn't exclusive enough. You guys have a problem.

      • The tier part kinda- bc if you play a lot everything is tier 5, but the stats and set bonuses are incredibly good

The stat revamp and the armor tier change were a great step in the right direction. That said, as per usual, Bungie failed to do what most stat-based games have done right for decades now. Balancing gear progression with the difficulty at which you get the best gear. Here feels completely backward. The more I grind, the less powerful I feel. It does not reward you for the activity you do, only for the time you spend, because in the revamp of the gear system, they gutted most of the game content and tried to push Light Level grind as the main thing to keep players busy. So it was not a "where to farm" factor and a "how long" farm factor. When the backlash forced them to speed things up and shower us in T5 gear, it was clear how the gear, armor in particular, was so bland and almost meaningless, unless you had it on T5. And I say armor in special because of stat distribution. I have some T4 weapons that I use because the difference between a T3 to T4 to T5 weapon is not that big, but for armors is not that simple, and even with a full set of T5 armor your gains are not that big, compared to other games, where the stats handles some of the difficult and allow you better survivability, more power to your abilities, and better overal performance, but still having a T5 is miles better than having a T3 or T4, because of the mod system and how stats effect your abilities. Although having a full set of T5 armor is great is not by a lot. I'm playing more or less in the same manner I was when I had all T3, I still die to the same random things, I still can get one shot by some dumb nonsense Bungie insist in throw at us in the most asinine ways, and it feels completely unrewarding for the time you spend looking for the perfect piece of armor for each build you may have. Not to mention how convoluted it became to have enough armor pieces to all kinds of builds you may use per character, per subclass, plus the exotics you may choose. TL;DR: They don't know how to implement a good itemization system in the game; they never knew, but it's glaring now because of how they changed how stats work. A multi-billion dollar studio fumbling where a bunch of dudes back in the early 2000s did it right with a small game called World of Warcraft.

        • There's just.....so much T4 and 5. It's coming in by the truck loads at this point. And all I'm doing? Playing Control. I've said before and I stick with my opinion: giving us crap tons of legendary loot really sinks gameplay cause then there isn't anything to work towards.

Why even have the other tiers? The loot itself is good though. How you get it just sucks.

Tiered system was an attempt to put lipstick on the proverbial pig. It was change for the sake of change to create a new chase. The tiered gear does not allow me to do anything that I couldn’t already do. Once I obtained T5 armor most of my cooldown were relatively the same. The set bonuses are nice, but are not game changing. I have T5 god rolls of all the weapons, but still use my crafted weapons. The tiered system was a waste of development resources to placate addicts. The people who were playing are still playing unless they were too irritated by being forced to run on the hamster wheel again. They people who weren’t playing, aren’t likely to have started because of the new system. And, before anyone wants to be clever I’m sure there are people who are exceptions to what I said. Edit. Destiny has been a “pig” for years now. Bungie lost the plot the moment they stopped making strikes for the game and started to recycle story missions to reuse as strikes, and replacing cutscenes with phone calls …. All down hill from there. Now we know it was because Bungie was systematically diverting resources to other projects while trying to do the minimum for Destiny.

            • As a hunter main i should give you a slap in the face .. Everyone knows the first character you delete is the titan . Shame on you ! And yes , tier armor has flopped . People already farmed for years for the perfect armor rolls , no-one is gonna do that again in the same game 😂😂 Tier armor in destiny 3 , okay but in destiny 2 ? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😍😍

              • Nope. Seems yall forgot how we got here. This is literally a direct result of the feedback the people gave. 550 is impossible, followed by a ridiculous amount of actual crying... This is what we got. Lmao.. This is what the ppl asked for!!! Yes... it is a PRIME example of "forgive them, for they not know what they ask"

                • It was just a bad design that originally made more sense when the tiered armor sets would lose their perks after 6 months and no reason to keep it. They extended the featured gear timer from edge of fate so now the system is a lot more bloated. With all the different variations, this armor system should have been handled with crafting imo.

                • Yes they flopped bad. The new armor stats literally do not make sense compared to what we had before edge of fate.

                • The tier system itself failed once everyone hit max level and it rained like candy on Halloween. When all the gear is special, none of the gear is special.

                  • I like the perk bonuses on the tier 5's (like on the old dungeon & raid sets) so that's a win for me. However... I like how you only get the T5's in Equilibrium for completing the challenges (although I think some are overtuned) That is how they should do it (not based on power level). The one change I would have liked to see (just from a vault management perspective) is the ability to select directly your stat spread then you could have 1 armour peice that you can adjust to suit your activity instead of having 5 different rolls of each. I've got almost 350 armour peices in my vault!!!

Weapons are not a problem anymore, even without crafting. Once you’re 470, game showers you with T5s and getting godrolls is super easy with 3 rows of perks. Given how easy it is so get T5s (except dungeons and raids), I’m not even sure what’s the point of having T1-4 anymore. Armor is another story altogether. Archetype, tertiary stat, tuned stat, set bonus, there is so much rng, it’s super difficult to get what you want. Definitely need some inventory management system here, whether through some sort of crafting or something else.

Would be nice to have one gun, or a piece of armor, and be able to customize it, once you've unlocked more perks/ combinations by acquiring different drops I am forced to keep the same item with different stats, because some perks or combos are really rare, and requires a lot of runs/ tries, which I don't mind to play for them, but the limited space gets me, I am running into the old problem of vault space again, prevented from further raiding/ looting, until I sort out my vault Destiny is the only game, where I have to plan before hand, in order to do anything, I can't just pick it up, and start playing Also, limit on upgrade materials is a real downer, you require me to be frugal with resources, then punish me if I keep using the same gear, and save them

                    • Yes they made T5 drop so much and getting to 550 so easy that anything below T5 isn't worth it outside of being a place holder. If T5 was less common than maybe it would be different but to late for that now.

                      • Its kind of a flop since t5 armors are just common armor now. They could easily get rid of it as nobody besides brand new players are using lower tiers armors. You get multiple t5 for losing pvp matches or doing a strike lmao

                      • My issue is how much vault space the armor takes up now. I found that I can only effectively play one character, and delete all other armor from the vault. If they were able to make it so that the armor would not take up vault space... I would enjoy it much more. But, I end up having to save so much armor, then go through it with build organizers, takes so much time to decide what to keep

                      • No. Tiered armor works well because of the increasing stat values and the ability to focus the additional stat. Tiered weapons seem to be more of the miss. I think a hard core player may notice the difference between a tier 1 and tier 5 with the enhanced perks, but the average player probably sees no difference. The only observable difference is 1 vs 2 vs 3 perks per column.
