Why don't we raid anymore?

Do you think there is a definitive reason why the game is less populated than before? I think it's because we don't raid anymore. Why don't we raid? I think the reason is simple, we just don't like hanging around with strangers, especially when some of them struggle in the parts of the game that most of us take for granted and do with ease. We don't like a mismatch of interest and experience in the game. We would raid if all 6 people had the same experience and knowledge in Destiny. But that has become a relic of the past, a unicorn, or simply a dream that we will never see become true, no matter what they do.

  • We just did DP yesterday. It was fun, so fun wasn't the issue. The issue was most people in our group had never done it, so it took us 6 hours to teach and get through it. During those 6 hours, not a single guardian got a T5 drop. I think thats the issue. We could have ran 100 activities in that time and got showered in meaningless T5 junk. But commit to the raid for 6 hours......

I think raids as they are done in Destiny are pretty unique and a major part of it's identity. Killing raids killed the magic. As for why people aren't raiding there's a lot of factors. For the casual player: Most pre-DP raid weapons became powercrept by portal. All pre-DP raid armor is low stat and lacks a set bonus. Many newbies get VERY disappointed getting all useless armor in a run. There are toxic people. There are also far more pleasant people. But it only takes ONE toxic encounter to ruin raids for someone new to them. Many players are too afraid of asking or 'wasting' someone's time with teaching. Newbies have no easy way to locate people willing to teach or at least bring them along in a raid. A lot of unverified stories of "I got kicked before loot" that scares some away.(I have seen this twice mind you) For me as a sherpa with 2200 carries: Fireteam finder lacks certain things to help learners find me over the "kwtd be good or kick" types. A lot of no-comms players with zero experience joining and wasting everyone's time. A LOT of cheaters that join to troll. I have to vet every applicant. Got to the point I had to make an app with the API to manage my fireteam finder posts. And ultimately I've become burned out on sherpaing due to the playerbase. Voice chat is a ghost town. Too much youtuber build ego(oh you're gonna contraverse sanctified mind?hahahaha) First thing we need is Bungie to overhaul all legacy raid armor. Some weapons could use perk updates. It's my opinion red border drops were very encouraging to players and I prefer crafting but it may be that the damage done with introducing tiered weapons means all legacy raid weapons will need the tiered treatment to bring the casual players back. There needs to be a 100% means of choosing between armor or weapon drops(ghost mod). Plus for me would be a mod to convert all raid drops into rally banners(please). Fireteam finder needs changes to make it better for both sides. Custom text(with verified accounts past a certain triumph score). Better tags. If I put Mic Required I want the game to not even allow them to join if they have VC and text chat turned off. And the difficult one. There needs to be a more positive community willing to engage with each other. There are far more pleasant people in this game and most of us have more in common than we differ. We can outshine the toxic miserable people that make raiding seem scary. And finally, one that will get me flamed: this solo-player no mic no text chat community means the death of this game. Stop being afraid of each other.

      • I don’t raid any more for a couple of reasons. Raids have become too convoluted. I’ve had enough of not meeting the unrealistic expectations of others.

          •
Why don't we raid?
1. Time commitment Even old raids take some commitment to learn the mechanics and encounters. I’d wager not a majority of the population has the desire nor time available to commit. Let alone go to the headache of finding 6 like minded guardians these days. 2. Loot Old raids loot is pretty much outdated (to a few exceptions) and new raid requires feats to be worthwhile, which feeds directly into issue #1. 3. Fun As far as I’m concerned I don’t even find Raid mechanics appealing: standing on a plate, hold a buff, jumping through hoops… it’s ok if that’s your thing, for me it’s not. 4. Community How many people just in the Dungeon quit after a few fails. FtF takes ages to find a team of 3, forget 6, and lots of people don’t, won’t or can’t communicate (language). Of the top of my head…

You could make a solid argument that the crucible set had more value lol. The guns are pretty mid too. When the raid rewards the best gear, your incentive to play it is much higher. When the raid rewards some of the worst presently available gear, it doesn’t incentivize you much. The new pantheon event better bring back some classic guns with new desirable rewards.

              • Simple answer is people dont play for fun anymore. Everyone just wants to get what a streamer said was meta. Also, you get some real pieces of work in LFG. Most people dont want to risk dealing with that

              • It’s a mix of things. I’m a player who has several solos dungeons including vespers host. I have flawless several raids and I consider myself to be quite a good player. That being said raids are no long there for the casual or regular player. This is what kills raiding. I’ve been in multiple teams now that are filled with the best of the best and they will not tolerate failure. It’s the mindset one gets when doing so much hard content in the game. However this type of player like myself used to be much more rare. Rarely would I encounter other players at my skill level. Now it’s all I find. This is the issue because just like trials, it’s filled with the best of the best and it’s very sweaty and very toxic. Everyone is at each others throats the entire raid. It’s not like before where there were casuals who were chill. It’s be good or get kicked. Not to mention harder mechanics equal a worse time

              • They made them too complex… the witness raid is off putting for casuals… all started there…

Because raid is really no longer end game content really. The most “sought out loot” is T5 drops literally by just existing. Why spend hours on a raid for a T5 when I can just do a solo event for 10 minutes and get a god roll? Plus again older raids aren’t in the Tier system too, already flawed unfortunately.

                  • The problem is the portal. Plain and simple. Desert has a weekly lockout of 3 for the exotic and if you did it multiple times and got everything out of it, no reason to return. Legacy raids? In a way sunset. Only really good for farming boss CP for the raids exotics you missed out on

Because its not required in the gameplay loop like to should be. Not required for max power. Not required for the best loot. Etc.

                  • the main reasons we have less player in the raids is that the community is going back mentally to the toddler stage cuz they are calling doing 1+1+1+1 impossible for basic players, and the other big problem is that a lot of guns inside the raids are not the top options.

                  • For a lot that used to frequently raid its a combination of outdated or useless loot and done raids that much that they become boring. Me personally I just don't enjoy them like I used to.
