Bank a Mercy
When solos play with duos they get a Mercy for that round. Which means there is nothing really at stake for them. Instead, make them win in order to earn that Mercy and bank it for a future loss.
You can cap the Mercys banked to keep it from being abused, but to me that feels more fair and interesting.

If they have to win to get the mercy, in an unfair situation, for why they need the mercy to begin with, then it's not really a mercy is it ? Now maybe if they lost, they still have the safety net of the mercy for that match, but if they win they get rewarded with a bonus mercy on their next loss
