(Edit: Fixed) PC crash on character selection after DIM login
(Edit: Waiting a couple of hours seemed to reset the profile State-cache)
Hello Bungie Support,
I’m experiencing a consistent crash issue in Destiny 2 on PC (Steam).
The game launches normally and I can see my characters, but when I confirm any character to enter the game, the screen goes black briefly and then the game crashes. This occurs on all characters, every time.
The issue began immediately after I logged into Destiny Item Manager (DIM) for the first time, which triggered a full inventory/profile sync via the Bungie API. Prior to that, the game was running without issues.
I’ve already tried the following:
Verified game files via Steam
Deleted the local Destiny 2 cache
Revoked DIM access and signed out of all Bungie sessions
Rebooted the system
There were no driver, system, or hardware changes before the issue started.
Crash logs consistently report a RUNTIME ERROR: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (attempted read of null address) occurring during character sign-in / orbit loading.
System details:
Platform: PC (Steam)
OS: Windows 11
GPU: Radeon RX 580
Since the crash affects all characters and persists after local cache resets and reinstalls, this appears to be an account-level issue, possibly related to character profile or inventory state, that may require a server-side refresh.
Thank you very much for your time and assistance.
Kind regards,
