We Need Numerical Values For Mods & Perks

I want clear, numerical values for mods & perks.

Vague wording is fine.

I don't care about damage resistance & buffs.

I've always wondered why there isn't something that shows the actual percentage gains for mods & perks. I know I'm not alone either & regardless of the reasons behind why this doesn't exists, after a decade I think someone could take some time & figure out how to fix this irritating section of Destiny; especially considering what a big part of the game a player's build is. Knowing the real resistance percentage or damage buff without having to find it online or try, do the research & math in game or memorize it from whatever you may figure out over time would save me so much time when I'm trying to build into a new artifact or activity. So many games have numerical values. This game is hard enough to understand for new players as is & as a veteran player since the launch of D1, I can honestly say that it's still not that clear to me. If a resistance mod cost three instead of two you'd think it would be better, but it's just different. Sure it covers a wider variety of damage, but it's still not necessary worth three points. The stacking of mods really needs clearly stated values too. Maybe once they decide to pick a system & stick with it, instead of changing the mods & perks with each expansion, they will take the time to fix the this annoyance, one hopes... 🙂🖖🏼 If anyone thinks this makes since, please share it with Bungie.

  •
I've always wondered why there isn't something that shows the actual percentage gains for mods & perks
Two reasons: The first is that they can adjust something up or down without mentioning it easier if no one has done any hard testing on it yet. While an unlikely scenario, it's certainly something that can happen. The second, and most likely main reason because it's consistent with other games that have done this "vague wording" thing, is that they don't want players knowing if they're being optimal or not. The people who care are going to look up the information themselves, so for the vast majority of players that don't look things up and don't follow guides, Bungie wants to keep them in the dark about actual values and let those players focus on how something "feels," irrespective of its efficacy. In short, it lets the ignorant players stay ignorant. Why game devs believe this is a good thing is beyond me, but Bungie is far from the first team to do things this way and they won't be the last.

  • One of the reasons they use terms such as greater lesser etc is it makes it easier to update things so when things change they don't have to go through an individually change each items wordings and values that are listed as those are usually set up separately but having a more defined range of what lesser or greater is would be nice like a window between 1 and 5 or 5 and 10 but the logistics of it makes sense with the wordings so they don't have to update each individual item that would be a lot of work and having live numbers attached to gear that update when the game updates requires quite a bit of processing power and coding to attach those numbers to the live system for buffs and debuffs and the like It would bog down the game and would require a lot of extra leg work to do so That's why the items are listed as such It sucks but that's the best way to do it without generating a lot of unnecessary work for something so relatively small in the grand scheme of the game overall is concerned

  • Because vague words means they can stealth nerf anything remotely good, hoping nobody notice it

  • The fact that it’s over ten years and we still have to look online to know what a perk does or mean is beyond me.

My theory is they can't give us numbers because the numbers are always changing. Occasionally they do give us numbers and then someone tests the numbers and figures out they are wrong. It's like a big interconnected puzzle in which you change one variable and it ends up having a bunch of unintended side effects. So they probably don't even always know 100% what the numbers are themselves.

    • We been asking for that... for a decade... A "better late, than never" is typically my view on most things in the world. But uh... like... perhaps we may just might possibly keep the vague wording because numerical numbers would mean someone would be held accountable. It's much easier to RNG it. Let the inconsistencies be the feature. That is the Bungie way...
