Disclaimer: I am not an expert, nor a Destiny veteran. I’m not writing this message to provoke or criticize harshly. I’m simply sharing my personal opinion, in good faith, because I love this game and am saddened by its current state. So before anyone says “skill issue” or similar — no, that’s not it.
Honestly, I don’t know how to feel about Destiny 2 anymore. I’ve been playing this game for years, I love it, I’ve spent countless hours in it, yet… I feel that Bungie no longer loves Destiny — they’re just exploiting it.
Yes, the game is old. I understand it needs a refresh, maybe a new game engine, maybe something fresh. But even if they announced Destiny 3 tomorrow, I don’t believe it would change anything. The problem isn’t the game — it’s Bungie’s attitude.
Right now, Destiny 2 is full of error codes, lag, and bugs that make many activities simply unplayable. In Haunted Altars of Sorrow, for example, during the 3rd wave it’s chaos — projectiles kill you instantly before you can react, enemies teleport randomly, Subjugators one-shot you. And it’s not just there — generally in the game there’s this unacceptable delay where everything stutters, enemies “jump” around unpredictably, and the experience isn’t hard… it’s just unplayable.
Another huge problem is the Tower. How does a nearly ten-year-old game still lag so badly there? You enter and nothing loads, you try to inspect your character or someone else’s, and items are invisible. Sometimes it works fine, but most of the time nothing works. How can a game this old still have such basic, ridiculous issues that haven’t been fixed? I can’t accept it.
And regarding the new “portal” they added… honestly, it’s the worst thing they could have done. The magic of the game is completely gone. You no longer feel that sense of “mystery” or the atmosphere Destiny once had — now it feels like a cheap shortcut that breaks the experience.
And before anyone says “it’s your internet” or “your PC,” let me clarify: no, it’s not that. It doesn’t make sense for me to have problems only with Destiny 2. If it did, I’d admit it. But it doesn’t.
Then there’s the issue of balance. Most enemy types are incredibly frustrating. Wyverns, Vex, Cabal with shields — one hit can leave you on the brink of death. Dread enemies deal unreasonable damage for no reason. There is absolutely no balance: the game is either way too easy or ridiculously difficult. They cannot find a middle ground, something interesting in between.
I know Destiny 1 was once very hard, unforgiving, and demanding — I haven’t played it, but from few things i’ve seen i can imagine. Destiny 2, however, has been on a downward slope. And honestly, it pains me to say that.
I understand that Bungie is preparing Marathon, a new project. But let’s be honest — who asked for it? Who is excited about it? The world is full of extraction shooters and PvP games. Nothing about it is new or original. It’s just another game. I understand that Bungie is a large company and wants to pursue new goals, develop other projects, and shift direction, but leaving Destiny to decay is something I personally cannot accept.
Surely there are many other issues in the game I’m not addressing here, because this message would become endless — though I am certain there are many more things I could add.
I firmly believe that at some point we will see “light at the end of the tunnel” again — there is hope. I believe Bungie will give their best to ensure this game doesn’t end.
I also want to emphasize that this message isn’t something new you haven’t seen before, nor am I trying to impress anyone. I simply want it to be heard. This is the opinion of a casual player, who just loves the game but believes it reflects the feelings of many in the community.
Thank you to anyone who took the time to read this entire message.
