Microsoft Account Compromised - Possible Transfer
Hi to anyone that can help,
I recognize firstly, that I am asking for a long shot and having to use the public forms to request this seems awkward, but last month, unfortunately my Microsoft/Xbox account was compromised, lost and locked out. It is a long story and I still don't know exactly how it happened, but so far I have had zero success working within Microsoft's support to restore my account. This means that I have lost nearly two decades of saves/purchases on my Xbox, so I am trying hard to see if I can save anything. My Destiny/Bungie account is very important to me - I have well over 1k hours in the franchise with so much investment in the expansions/passes over the years. I doubt I can ask for credit on the expansions, but I wonder if anything, at all, please, can happen to save my characters? I do have Cross Save enabled and have played Destiny through Steam. I have a couple (older) expansions in Steam. Microsoft is the primary for my characters, but if there is any way at all to transfer that to be "under" Steam, that would be awesome. I would be so grateful.

2 RepliesEdited by EckyThump: 11/3/2025 2:49:14 AMHey there, characters are permanently locked to the account under which they are created, there's no form of transfer; either to another Microsoft account or to the linked Steam account. They'll always belong to your XBox account. As long as cross-save remains set up (and in fact, it's now impossible to cancel it), your characters will still be playable via Steam and should not be in any danger - while they're tied to your XBox account, your account data is stored by Bungie not Microsoft. Have you tried playing them there, or do you see another kind of error, like a 'Not so fast..' message?
