Disclaimer: I am not an expert, nor a Destiny veteran. I’m not writing this message to provoke or criticize harshly. I’m simply sharing my personal opinion, in good faith, because I love this game and am saddened by its current state. So before anyone says “skill issue” or similar — no, that’s not it.
Honestly, I don’t know how to feel about Destiny 2 anymore. I’ve been playing this game for years, I love it, I’ve spent countless hours in it, yet… I feel that Bungie no longer loves Destiny — they’re just exploiting it.
Yes, the game is old. I understand it needs a refresh, maybe a new game engine, maybe something fresh. But even if they announced Destiny 3 tomorrow, I don’t believe it would change anything. The problem isn’t the game — it’s Bungie’s attitude.
Right now, Destiny 2 is full of error codes, lag, and bugs that make many activities simply unplayable. In Haunted Altars of Sorrow, for example, during the 3rd wave it’s chaos — projectiles kill you instantly before you can react, enemies teleport randomly, Subjugators one-shot you. And it’s not just there — generally in the game there’s this unacceptable delay where everything stutters, enemies “jump” around unpredictably, and the experience isn’t hard… it’s just unplayable.
Another huge problem is the Tower. How does a nearly ten-year-old game still lag so badly there? You enter and nothing loads, you try to inspect your character or someone else’s, and items are invisible. Sometimes it works fine, but most of the time nothing works. How can a game this old still have such basic, ridiculous issues that haven’t been fixed? I can’t accept it.
And regarding the new “portal” they added… honestly, it’s the worst thing they could have done. The magic of the game is completely gone. You no longer feel that sense of “mystery” or the atmosphere Destiny once had — now it feels like a cheap shortcut that breaks the experience.
And before anyone says “it’s your internet” or “your PC,” let me clarify: no, it’s not that. It doesn’t make sense for me to have problems only with Destiny 2. If it did, I’d admit it. But it doesn’t.
Then there’s the issue of balance. Most enemy types are incredibly frustrating. Wyverns, Vex, Cabal with shields — one hit can leave you on the brink of death. Dread enemies deal unreasonable damage for no reason. There is absolutely no balance: the game is either way too easy or ridiculously difficult. They cannot find a middle ground, something interesting in between.
I know Destiny 1 was once very hard, unforgiving, and demanding — I haven’t played it, but from few things i’ve seen i can imagine. Destiny 2, however, has been on a downward slope. And honestly, it pains me to say that.
I understand that Bungie is preparing Marathon, a new project. But let’s be honest — who asked for it? Who is excited about it? The world is full of extraction shooters and PvP games. Nothing about it is new or original. It’s just another game. I understand that Bungie is a large company and wants to pursue new goals, develop other projects, and shift direction, but leaving Destiny to decay is something I personally cannot accept.
Surely there are many other issues in the game I’m not addressing here, because this message would become endless — though I am certain there are many more things I could add.
I firmly believe that at some point we will see “light at the end of the tunnel” again — there is hope. I believe Bungie will give their best to ensure this game doesn’t end.
I also want to emphasize that this message isn’t something new you haven’t seen before, nor am I trying to impress anyone. I simply want it to be heard. This is the opinion of a casual player, who just loves the game but believes it reflects the feelings of many in the community.
Thank you to anyone who took the time to read this entire message.

Well said

Edited by The Legend Himself: GONZO: 11/3/2025 6:31:46 PMI agree. Well said. Sadly, nobody with the power to do something about it will read it. You need to either be a Destiny content creator with a sizable platform or post on Twitter with many followers to get Bungie to hear you out. They don’t care about us or the bulk of their community. They’ve outsourced the collection of opinions to streamers, YouTubers, and people with clout. We’re nobody to them. We’re just yelling out to the void.

I can't find one problem with anything you have said. I personally believe Bungie went off the rails several years ago. It has been interesting watching them release bad updates and then covering the fallout by taking exceptional content they have had for future updates and releasing said content early. To me, it appears they have been mixing and matching different styles of content, sampling the player base to see what they can get away with. I have no illusions about Bungies knowledge of good content versus serviceable, versus junk. I had also noticed, with the release of the Neomuna junk, a change in the base difficulty of the game. I recall the majority of the content creators complaining the game was too easy. Well, they made it more difficult and not fun, which ticked off the majority off their players. Imagine that. They don't seem to be able to learn do they?

Fully agree with the issues reported. Especially the balance part, it’s the worst I’ve seen. I did Savathun Ultimate Conquest yesterday and it was the most ridiculous experience I had so far. Ennemies so tanky a full volley of Flechette Storm with Wishfull wasn’t enough, and I’m talking orange bar, not even mini boss. Add to that no starting ammo, and ridiculous ammo economy, no UI… We did it, but the overall experience was unpleasant. I just wanted to get done with it.

All good points, I believe most people feel like this in regards to Destiny and Bungie and unfortunately I don't think there's any light at the end of the tunnel except a giant Neon Sign that reads "This Way for Disappointment". Destiny is a game that will die and the reasons are the usual suspects, greed and ignorance. Bungie has constantly been pulling the thread of how little they can give while garnering the most profit. Eventually they found the end of the tread and thought "Why stop there?".

“Please read this”
nah
I read it, and if the current ceo remains the same the same guy who said he didn't want to over deliver, and has remained completely quiet as the ship sinks, the game is over. You need someone who enjoys the game and wants to deliver a product the best they can and put a good effort into it. The leadership needs removed and the devs on marathon who once loved destiny and did the things we love need returned to destiny, or completely new people need brought on that have a passion for destiny.

7 RepliesNeeds a TLDR. But here's a bump!

Edited by nonchalantone: 11/3/2025 7:43:26 PMAgreed 💯. They are most assuredly exploiting this game. When I think of how old the "Cosmodrome" is, every time I play a Solo Op...it burns me up. Literally here since D1. We were awakened there! They just keep recycling old sht and reselling it back to us, for a profit. Remember...this is the same company that wants you to pay for cool emblems... Instead of just gifting something as simple as.....an emblem.

Well put. Bungie tends to experiment with each new update. For each success there are ten failures. This update had many more failures than successes. Hoping things improve.
-
I agree and It's ironic cause I just wrote about the way the enemies are! What makes matters worse is that they removed alot from the game and issues are a plenty! I'll leave it at that but I agree wholeheartedly

TL;DR. All I managed to get is that the game is ten years old and still lagging like hell. Yes, it lags, this is because the modern code being spaghetti strung into the old code, removing half of what made the game work, and spaghetti stringing more new code in to replace it on an engine that's over 20 years old and been modified to death.

Bungie should keep their ambitions alive. We wouldn’t have Destiny if they didn’t plan for life after Halo. However, Bungie’s biggest issue is still Bungie. I think they’ve done more than squander D2; a whole sci-fi empire is really at stake.

D1 was split into two groups. People with a gjallarhorn, And people without a gjallarhorn. Those with one had a much easier time playing the game, and those without it had a much rougher time. The only hard mission was the whisper, because you had to be fast to beat the timer. And sometimes you had to wait forever to trigger the mission, which sucked. The outbreak mission was difficult too, but was easy to cheese.

OP: Bump! 👻

4 RepliesI'm not getting error coded so yes, that's your setup... Dying in Altars is meaningless, it's virtually impossible to fail the activity.

Very well, put exactly right on the nose. Good job.
