One of the Biggest Flaws of D2

I constantly find myself wanting to jump in and play. The raw gameplay is one of the best feeling action games on the market. I love it. It's the biggest reason I keep wanting to come back. However, so often I find myself just not wanting to do anything. Why is that? I believe the answer is simply that there's not enough focus on the fun aspect of the game. Everything feels designed not as an entertaining activity, but as a time-consuming effort for the sole purpose of a dopamine hit at the end when you get to roll for random loot. The last activity that feels like it was designed to genuinely be enjoyed was Onslaught. The new Haunted Altars activity feels like it was intended to be enjoyed, but there wasn't enough resources available to fully flesh it out. So what if one isn't interested in the loot? Maybe there's no progress to be made? Remove the loot and progress at the end an activity and what do you have left? The same hurdle you've jumped over many times. An experience that has little to no variation between runs. A truly monotonous experience of performing the exact same actions over and over again. There is no replayability in anything. There is nothing to really savor in the game. It's all just work work work to chase that carrot on a stick, but once you lose interest in the carrot, you realize the treadmill has gone stale. There just seems to be no concern about the raw content going stale, despite the constant recycling. I see people wanting new content all the time. "We need new strikes," "We need new this," "We need new that." But I see a fundamental flaw in those requests. Unless we receive a constant influx of new content (which Bungie does not have the resources or talent to provide anymore), anything new we receive will go just as stale as everything else and we will be back to asking for me. What I truly feel D2 needs is some sort of new system(s) to freshen the content we already have. We need more emphasis on activities being replayable. We need activities to be more designed around letting the game's raw moment to moment gameplay feel shine and be enjoyed.
