REMINDER TO BUNGIE - Players do not like the New Gear System. Get rid of it.

Bungie, the player population is too low for you to make half-measure corrections to systems that are unpopular amongst the players. Players do not like being told what weapons they are allowed to use in an activity, and that guns they have worked hard to acquire will do less damage simply because they are not from the current "New" pool of weapons. Players are also not going to want to re-farm armor pieces for their existing armor builds just because you chose to change the damage resistance between the armor they already farmed and the current "New" armor. You have announced plans to change the New Gear system such that: [A] Weapon damage "bonus" for new weapons is 5% rather than 10%; [B] Armor damage resistance "bonus" for new armor is 10% rather than 15%; and [C] current "New Gear" from Reclamation will continue to be counted as "New Gear" in Renegades (effectively delaying the New Gear reset, but nor removing it). You call the differences in damage and damage resistance "bonuses" for using new gear. The truth is that these are "penalties" for not using "New Gear". These systems penalize players by denying maximum damage and maximum damage resistance unless they re-farm the weapons and armor you have chosen. Weapons and armor that are currently considered "New Gear" will incur reduced damage and reduced damage resistance once they are no longer considered "New Gear". That is a direct nerf to that gear. Weapons players farmed prior to Edge of Fate are already incurring this penalty. The changes to reduce the percentages of these "bonuses" does not change the fact that you are forcing players to continually re-grind the game or be penalized. Players will be forced to accept that some guns they have worked hard to acquire and have grown to favor will do less damage than weapons you have deemed "new". Players will be forced to accept that they will have reduced survivability in harder endgame content if they do not re-farm armor pieces for the increased damage resistance. The New Gear system is a poorly conceived system that is creating player resentment and it should be removed in its entirety with the other changes you are making to pull back on unpopular systems in the game. You can incentivize player engagement in other ways. You can promote farming new armor by providing new Set Bonuses . If you add new interactions on new armor (e.g., subclass based interactions, activity based interactions, weapon type interactions) then players will farm the new armor for those new Set Bonuses. You can incentivize players farming new weapons by refreshing perk pools on weapon types and adding/changing perks and origin traits on weapons. Make players feel rewarded for obtaining new weapons and armor rather than penalizing them for using new the weapons and armor they already invested time in farming.
