I’ve been playing this game for over 10 years and for the first time ever I was officially burnt out after the release of edge of fate. Leveling up is not content. The entire system is flawed I have to grind gear to make my level go up, to then be able to tackle harder content which then lowers my level, to do the harder content and get higher level gear, just so I can do higher level content which will lower my level again. The horrible power grind is not what we asked for as a community and pissed all of us off. I took a two month break and came back last week after all the power changes have been implemented, and I will say the leveling is in a much better state than when I stopped playing, however, this is what it should’ve been to begin with.
You guys took the path of Apple, who creates a problem, and then begin to fix the problem that they created. There will be no thank you’s, there will be no congratulations, there will be no wins given to you guys. You do not get to pour gasoline on our houses, strike the match, light the house on fire, and then put out the fire and expect a thank you. I’m currently grinding out my levels and I’m extremely happy you are not increasing power level in renegades. For myself, my wife is giving birth to our son in a few weeks, so I will not be able to play renegades for quite some time. For me, the fact that you’re not increasing power level means I can focus on leveling now and then focus strictly on content when I do get around to play.
The portal is a disaster. If the purpose of creating the portal was to make it easier for people to follow then you failed as a company. The world view of all of the planets is not only nostalgic, but that is destiny. Multiple planets stretched across a galaxy with tons of content, sitting stagnant. If your plan is to slowly add everything from the world into the portal, then the portal will be oversaturated, and packed with so much content that it will be overwhelming, which is exactly what you’re trying to prevent. Rather than having a map with worlds scattered across the screen that you can click on, and then things labeled on the map such as powerful gear, or pinnacles, you will have a bunch of squares with pictures on them all over the screen with symbols of bonus drops, and normal drops scattered all over the place. How is this more streamlined for new players? The portal does not feel like a video game, it feels like I’m scrolling through Netflix looking for a show to watch.
The lack of content that matters is ridiculous. A friend of mine asked me if it was worth purchasing Destiny 2 because he saw the $35 deal with all of the DLC’s included. As much as I love the game, I told him I highly recommend he does not purchase it. Yeah he can do the story, however, when it comes time for dungeons and raids, which continue the story he will come to a screeching halt. Nobody wants to run deep stone. Nobody wants to run vow. Nobody wants to run last wish. Nobody wants to run salvation’s edge. Nobody wants to run any of the dungeons. He will have all of this amazing content that is completely and utterly useless. In the which queen, he will unlock the enclave for crafting, however, to get most of the items in the enclave they no longer exist in the game due to seasons, or they are locked behind a dungeon and a raid which nobody wants to do and it would take hours to find a team that wants to do them because they’re just not worth it.
Honestly, I still like the game because the gameplay and builds are very fun. There’s nothing that scratches the itch more than me running around on void walker, throwing vortex grenades with contraverse hold and watching enemies explode in void energy. The current state of the game is absolutely sad and it seems as if all of our complaints fall on deaf ears. The changes to the portal and leveling system are a panic response to the backlash from a community, and even with the changes which are positive people still don’t want to play the game. You guys as a company really need to get your $h!t together and stop working on marathon so hard which is DOA. We do not care, nor want an extraction shooter. End rant.

Yup. Destiny 2 is a good game. There’s so much good content. Hell, even great content. But 0 incentive to play it anymore, less so for newer players. I’m gonna play until the lights go out (just far less so than before), but this rework has been an utter disaster, and worse, an embarrassment. So much wasted development time only to moonwalk right out of it. -blam!- stupid. Have a good one, guardian.
