I don't mind if there's a soft buff for having it on, but come on. Seriously. Quit tying the item/candy pick ups to the helmets. Almost all of my favorite builds across all of my characters are tied to exotic helmets and the game is not in a place right now where you can afford to alienate players. I want to come back, I want to play but it's a bad feeling to log in and suddenly remember that all of the builds I enjoy using suddenly don't work anymore because the event is tied to an arbitrary armor piece that we wear for a month and then never use again.
