A game that punishes you for succeeding

never ever seen these kind of systems in a shooter your reward for leveling up is a consistently worse experience with less and less fun, the game acts as if playing this game is some kind of ultimate privilege and that the worst parts of it are to be treasured and endless time wasted on the most tedious and annoying experiences to be found in any game rpg mechanics that utterly defeat the benefit of leveling you never feel stronger this is just an unbelievably blunt hamster wheel chasing metrics above anything and utterly disconnected from the actual play experience. Just a bunch of novice anvil level adjustments to make sure players have to constantly grind. There is no art whatsoever to this design. Nobody at bungie in touch with what creates the addictive experience. This team just tears away basically all of the dopamine by punishing you for success on every level. it's not like other games couldn't put this crap on their games, but nobody wants to because it simply isn't fun for most players and a tiny slice of players can't carry your bad design. amazing that a team with this low level of design skill is in charge of this massive billion dollar franchise

  • You have not succeeded yet! I would assume that 550, and max guardian rank would be end game at this point. If that’s what you are playing for. If you want to have fun you are bound by nothing, other than playing activities that you enjoy. If you are chasing loot, ie certain weapons, armor for builds or leveling, then jump on whatever hamster wheel gets you to it. These are the two paths to play this game. Bungie chose these paths for you. You have choices on whether to play whatever you want for “fun”. Or play the way they want for loot. Choice is yours!

Just play at Normal. You'll feel plenty strong.

      • You can still do a master level strike and eviscerate everything and everyone.

      • So glad I left this sack of 💩 of a game... This game is so far down the crapper it's past the point of being saved I left this game months ago it was a real tough choice for me because I had played it for years started with the alpha and beta of d1 and then the beta of d2 I was addicted to it I called myself a exotics hunter at the point of finishing with d2 I had every exotics weapon and armour.. after the final shape was done and the light and darkness saga finished in my eyes d2 swiftly began losing its identity completely I just couldn't play it anymore and in all honesty it hurts..... it really still hurts bungie should just give all the rights of destiny 2 to another company that would want to make it a more meaningful awesome place to be...

It's a drudge. In bugged content, just had Devils Lair bug out on 2 out of 3 Security Measures. A power grind that means nothing because of deltas. I hit 500 and it was here, play at this level or nothing. I can't be bothered anymore. They have ruined the best bit of the game. The gunplay. Bullet sponge enemies with health, shields, elemental shields and the modifiers like the one where they spew void everywhere. They have been speeding up enemy movement and teleports and it's now just comical watching Fallen Captains walk backwards at 50 mph. Then there's the constant one enemy robotically sniping you in every activity as you try to deal with a horde of overpowered enemies. Just playing this game used to be fun. Firing the guns was a pleasure. Now the game is just done. It's an old tired game that is pointless, boring and bugged. Renegades is how Destiny will go out. With a whimper. People are tired of Bungie and their constant cycle of screwing up by doing things no one asked for and then trying to fix it. And where's the roadmap Bungie ??

        • I felt that yesterday xd I'm still on 340ish becuz I gave up leveling up when I got to 300, but yesterday I decided to do Encore on 300 by myself to complete the seasonal challenges... ik I'm not on 400-500 like yall, but Encore on 300 felt, for some reason, harder than ever for me :v I've always done Encore but yesterday it felt super hard for some reason, and I was using my usual loadout, nothing fancy just the loadout that I always use for general tasks and champions. idk what they changed exactly, but the mission was never that hard before..safe to say I didn't manage to finish the mission and the experience was miserable and boring someone might say it was a skill issue, but if a warlock with devour and restoration can't survive something I'd bet there's something wrong that's not skill-related. skill issue or not, still a miserable experience regardless 👍

The game is in a really sad place right now. I got to 550 last week and also got to Guardian Rank 11. In past seasons, that made me happy and I got some satisfaction out of being the highest level and rank. This time, it just felt hollow, and I was questioning why I even bothered to do it. I went through my friends list the other day and realised that about two thirds of the people on it hadn't played in over a year. Fireteam Finder for Raids was almost entirely dead and it was even a struggle to find people for the Ultimate Conquests. The original level grind burnt out so many people, who are now not around to see the totally over-corrected climb. Levelling as a whole has been caught between two ideas; 1) enforce caps/deficits so rewarding content never becomes too easy, and 2) level up so you feel more powerful as you go. These are at odds with each other, and the game getting harder as you increase your level just seems backwards. It's still pretty straightforward to get A Grades on Ultimate, but I miss not having to think about what the exact specifics of any given build are. Part of this is just the nostalgia from a younger me talking, but in D1 you could just sit in the Strikes playlist and use only your weapons and not get bored. Speaking of, I think a huge L right now is the Quickplay playlists being totally useless. I would be much happier to use a playlist that has every Strike/Solo Ops in it than the same 3-5 on a daily basis, but the level cap means it's never going to reward me at all. Unless I'm missing something, it's not even possible to score highly enough to get the bonus drops when your level is meant for Ultimate.

          • The "Ultimate Conquest Grandmaster" strikes are a joke. A huge time sink, and slap in the face. They sucked the fun right out of this game.

          • Yeah, they really missed the mark, and it wasn't very hard. Instead of setting up these permanent power deltas, it should have been the opposite. For instance, in order to progress from 450-500, that should be considered grandmaster tier. All enemies at this level are set at 470 power. For the first 20 levels you are underleveled and have to overcome, but then it gets easier as you progress. 500-550 is ultimate and all the enemies are set at 530. You start with that -30 delta, but things get easier as you go along. Fireteam scaling only brings you up to the bottom of the level you play at. Scoring can still be loosely based on what level you are within the tier, and would maybe require some more modifiers at higher level to get higher score, but that's offset by the fact that you are now overleveled (and wouldn't be required to still get maybe a B+).

          • I'm 520 for 5 days now. Before 520, most solo ops were difficult, but not impossible. I hit 520 and suddenly can't beat Solo Ops for an A.

          • I honestly don’t want to be “challenged”, but I’ve not had a lot of problems adjusting my load out and taking on whatever’s in front of me. I’ve enjoyed the progression of levels and challenge.🤷‍♀️

          • I finally hit 500 last night. I'm glad they're not increasing the Power Level in Renegades now, because the Power Level Grinding post 500 is just like going from 400 to 450 in Edge of Faith all over again.

              • Haha, never thought the day would come where I'd actually say, trials of osiris is the only thing worth playing currently. Win some lose alot more, but its the only mode that works.

Yeah bringing back delta's in everything does eliminate the feeling of not being powerful to an extent which is based on players skill and experience.
