I'm rank 30 in the Halloween event, and I think it's because Altars are just fun and chill.

It's not a complicated activity, the difficulty level isn't punishing, it's just a nice, fun, laid back, chill activity. I can set my own goals, like getting revives, or topping the kill list; I can bring nearly any load out I want without worrying about champions or restrictive timers; nobody is there to sweat, most folks are just having fun. The loot isn't even that spectacularly great, it's not external motivation that pushed me to play, it was enjoyment - and besides, I'm pretty sure I got the god rolls I wanted in the first couple of days. What I'm getting at, just to restate the obvious, is that Haunted Altars of Sorrow is a chill activity, and that's something that Destiny 2 has lacked since the release of Edge of Fate. It's an activity that I can just go into and play around, try out different load outs, not worry about hyper optimization or perfect build crafting. Renegades needs something like Haunted Altars of Sorrow, somewhere that players can go, chill, and get some good loot. The whole game doesn't need to be like that, but we do need that kind of an outlet. Whoever came up with the ideas behind HAoS should get a raise (but not a promotion.)

    A full armor set similar to solstice was needed to make it worth playing over 3 weeks. I got the 3 weapon godrolls within the first few days (0.5-1 hr/day) and then there’s nothing to look forward to in terms of rewards. Biggest soft lock issue is still not fixed, just before boss fight, one of the flips isn’t recognised and a symbol remains lit with no way to avoid unlike boss soft lock which most teams could avoid after Day1z

  • There needed to be an armor set, and more weapons. All of the past festival weapons. They didn't even add non tiered versions at the vender like they did with iron banner.

  • I can’t stand the activity. I feel like it’s gonna go the same speed if I play or if I afk cause there aren’t enough enemies for 6 players.

    • beg to differ. I do not find them fun or engaging. I die all the time and because of that I am ineffective in the mode. It is obviously designed in mind that all players are going to be well above 300 LL, maybe even 400 LL. I would bet that is why they gave the 300 LL box, because many players were not at 300 LL and they are designing content with player being above that threshold. Too difficult, to be fun and engaging. Could care less about it, and it apparently is still bugged. Can't confirm, as I have not played it, but reading reports it is still bugged, so I want no part of it.

      • I am not it's biggest fan. There are not enough enemy spawns for 6 people. 3 spawn areas and 6 people means you're always competing against someone. It makes builds that take a second to spin up or require momentum to be maintained extremely frustrating to play with.

        • I agree 100%. It is a chill activity and fun to do with 5 other players outside of a raid setting. Loot is plentiful...got a couple T5 Gunburns with the rolls I wanted and (finally) one of the crossbows with Chill Clip.

            • This thread helps show the diverse community that is destiny, and the main problem bungie faces. While op is saying the event is fun and chill, you have threads on the same page saying the opposite. 1 even complaining how the event is too difficult. That's the main issue bungie faces with the game. There are many different groups of people that play the game for many different reasons, and bungie can't satisfy them all. As for the event: I've enjoyed it and had a ball. I like the mix of activity mechanics and all the loot it gives us. The pvp part of the event is fun too. I do hope they do something like this for dawning. I've suggested something with an onslaught foundation, where we are protecting Santa's sleigh.

              • Solstice was good because the loot drops were good and constant. FoTL is the same, imho, despite the glitches and bugs. Soft lock was encountered in my first run, and many times thereafter; the bunch of switched-on players recognised it for what it was - and so we all wiped…even though it took a few friendly slaps to help jog one’s memory, as one rushed about trying to revive everyone! 🤭 Pretty soon, the word spread, and it was no longer an issue. I gilded my seal and reached rank 30 within the first 10 days or so. I’ve got more tier 5 loot than I need…so, I’m using that as infusion fuel for all my 10s in the vault. Das gut! ✅ In playing FoTL , I think it would be better if all rewards / bounties / quests were team shared / whoever actually hit the mark; having to compete with 5x other Guardians for the same thing is not fun: this is the same problem with Gambit. Also, the nonstop explosions and pyrotechnics don’t help, nor does being yoinked into kill zones by hordes of overtuned enemies. 🧐 3 weeks is 1 week too many, imho… Overall, what drives the ‘fun’ element for me is the plentiful good loot…the glitches and bugs are a thing, but not a game breaker. At least, that’s how I see it. I hope they apply this type of model to all future events. That is all. Ease Springs! 🖖👻

              • Cool activity even if it is buggy and laggy as hell. But personally the rewards didn’t make it too appealing, I only found the crossbow and smg to be interesting.

              • People never said that the activity was complicated or difficult on the way every time there's an issue with the game players like you have to bring up the words oh it's difficult so you don't like it's like that's your mechanism to cope with the current State of the game oh people don't like the current State so they probably can't handle the content which the load of bull. Last week most people just did not want to play the event because of the soft lock people did not want to waste 20 to 30 minutes or less to hope and pray that the s*** doesn't lock on them. Frankly I don't know why players aren't fed up at this point you pay money for destiny 2 content they launch an update and it's bugged its glitched they don't test their stuff anymore it's like they don't care what they are doing is a form of that they don't care. They are nothing like the bungee we had for destiny one where they used to play the game all the time they used to stream on twitch playing destiny 1 and enjoy it they don't do s*** like that anymore.. It's no surprise that they lost 80% of their player base.. It's no surprise that last year destiny 2 was the top game to play according to twitch and now it's no longer the top game to play on twitch. Doesn't help that players in this community her so blind like Maga Trump supporters cult leaders who just don't want to admit that the current state of destiny is unacceptable it needs to be fixed or they might as well just close the servers. Logically makes no sense they implement a system like the portal but they don't add additional contact new content... They try to increase the difficulty of the game but they don't improve the rewards think about alternate for sorrows all you get is additional tier 3 engram. Just remember when edge of fake came out that was one of the concerns from professional gamers what's the point of playing on heart difficulties with harder modifiers if the rewards are gonna be garbage...

                • Tell me about dying mid emote, mid finisher, mid class move, dodge, shift, super activation, reloading etc one gets up my nose worst is finishers & the cow crap mod finishers grant you an over-shield whilst performing a finisher. AND it’s not just the moon haunt event is everywhere across the entire game it just 10x fold worse in hallowed event. The Timelapse on moves (finishes) etc is just ridiculous it’s cruel verges on anger of wanting to leave the game all together as the majority already have, will I be another fan that’s simply had enuff… Oh and I feel for the casual player that simply doesn’t have the time nor the patience of farming seasonal events to even come close to wanting to knock it out for achievements & or titles. So some would turn to afk farms and risk a banned or just find themselves something similar and more convenient to play.

                  The lag in phase 3 aside I have to agree, it's the only "daily" activity atm that allows you to play any spec and with any gear. With everything it's like a school project , you have to check 47 modifiers, switch around mods, keep anti champ weapons for two types of champs at all time etc. Kind of wish we'd get two normal rewards instead of event stuff though or that we could get a full event armor set.

                • It says I've completed altars 13 times and I haven't seen a soft lock yet so I assume I'm just lucky. It's chill until either the ogre spawns right behind me, or I forget that I can't be as aggressive in wave three and get fisted to death by dread. Or crashed to desktop.

                • It’s a fine event. Most runs are good, but the occasional soft locks requiring everyone to leave do get annoying. In fairness, I also ragequit whenever I start a Skyrim or Fallout 4 campaign only for them to freeze not even an hour in.

                  Feels uncanny to me, it’s so -blam!- laggy, everything teleporting about and such, I want mah lost sectors back xd Sometimes I give up and let everyone else do the work or sometimes I just leave [spoiler]I can't take this -blam!- no more man[/spoiler] And then you have the “Attention! Contacting D2 servers!” -blam!- for no reason as if Bungie is saying “please insert 5 coins to continue.” then kicking me to -blam!- orbit. and I though goonframe made me insane…

                • They should get a raise when they fix gilding seals. Since the second gilding of each event was made available the gildings have been bugged and not counting. At this point every event should be at it's 4th gilding, champ is bugged at 2, star baker as well, just now finished my 4th gilding of ghost writer still a 3. It's not even about difficulty, this game is stupid easy to play. What is the main issue everyone has is that simple things like a checklist or gilding get bugged, after completion of all event triumphs your reward is not granted. Time investment for gilding ghost writer is not hard but time consuming, gilding is the reward for that effort and it's not even rewarded properly. So yeah it's definitely a chill mode but what's not chill is have gilding and triumph bug and not awarded properly to those who put time into unlocking these things. Either way enjoy D2 guardian despite the bugs I enjoy the game, just wish players received their rewards properly instead being let down by them.
