Was The Lightfall / Final Shape Narrative Team Fired?

I guess the decline in good story really started in Revenant, but now it feels so bad. What happened to the kinds of killer narratives we'd been seeing from S21 until then? I know EoF was made to be smaller (though I still think the story is okay, kind of like a setup DLC as Shadowkeep was) and I get that Ash and Iron is free, but there's 0 explanation of what's going on here and why things are happening the way that they are. In EoF, The Nine aren't really explained well, and we kinda skip over worrying about them, the Aionians, or the place we've arrived on, just to chase a goofy fallen Archon – only for the real bad guy to be revealed as The Conductor, and the campaign still feels inconclusive at the end. For every other DLC with a new destination, Ghost is all like "wow this is a cool new place that we didn't know stuff about", but EoF is like "okay, were here on a random generic rock, let's move past all the weird stuff going on". Then there's Desert Perpetual, in which The Conductor is trying to open other timelines or something, which barely feels related to The Nine and whatever she was doing on Kepler specifically. Why did she even kill 3? It seems like a completely pointless thing to do. Now with Ash and Iron, in the opening mission The Conductor invaded the Tower, everyone was cool with it, and the players have no dialogue or even text based explanation to what she was doing there except for something about a Vanguard vault (????). Then, Conductor goes to the Plaguelands for some reason, which she could have just done to begin with, and which were still quarantined like 7+ years after the siva outbreak with no explanation as to why. She's after the Warmind stuff, which we see in Reclaim and Heliostat, but there's absolutely no explanation given as to why she wants the Warmind stuff on Earth over a place like Mars which is still mostly intact, or Europa with all the Braytech stuff and evil Clovis. Or even Vex simulated tech, since she can just pull that stuff into reality I guess. Anyway, the Heliostat environment is also super confusing, because there apparently always been a giant Warmind facility that looks completely alien to all other Warmind Bunkers (almost totally unaffected by the siva outbreak btw), with white walls that have cell structured doors, blue colored Warsats, a huge weird and impractical structure under a missile silo, etc, just under / beside the Site 6 replication chamber. This would be cool and everything if they at least retconned some explanation, instead of throwing it into the game and trying to pass it off as consistent with any lore. Also, why is ANY Warmind tech still active? If siva "died" because Rasputin did, why is this entire facility active, and why are there exploding nuclear reactors inside? Also also, how does a Warsat allow Conductor to pull a vex simulated Val Thuun into reality?

  • Yes, at least if they where under the umbrella of being in the expansion team. When Sony decided no more budget for big expansions - the entire expansion team was laid off, all had been hired just 7 months before lightfall. The new lead catarina went into detail about her job, she said expansions are 6 month builds & the other 6 months they work/test marathon. She even said she couldnt wait to get back to Marathon after FS was complete, & even tweeted just starting final shape today - 6 months from the initial release. The old episodes teams now work on D2 & have been told to work with what they already have regarding actual content - hence all the reused assets & activities
