Bungie Bungie Bungie.
This day has been marked by many. The warnings was given, but still you decided to chase the same old narative and here we are, streamers and top 1% got what they wanted. A game that is a chore and not enjoyable.
Me personally is extremely proud of the casual comunity for finally decided to talk with actions. I have seen a few ups and downs in the 13500hrs i have put into the game since D1 dropped.
Now that the casuals have stopped playing/paying and watching the streamers and top1% are leaving. If this action does not highlight to you that it is time to listen to the real comunity, then you are destined to fail in the near future. Listen to the part of the comunity that is actually playing the game to enjoy it. The more enjoyable the game is to the comunity the more they will spend on the franchise.
It is just hilarious to read and see the content creators going of at the comunity for being toxic. The comunity is toxic because of what happened to their hobbie because of eletism. A tier5 farm means nothing for the casual player due to the grind imposed on them because of "we want harder content".
Remember one thing, my delux edition, your delux edition and the poor casual delux edition cost the same price and consist of the same content. It is the same as buying an exotic sports car, but because you can only drive on weekends you are not allowed to use the freeway. This is only for daily drivers. Biggest load of horse s#*t you can think of.
I have stopped raiding as all my friends stopped playing, i would have stopped as well but as long as my wife needs help with an activity i will jump in and help. Dont get me wrong, DESTINY has the making to be the best game of all times, unfortunately the wrong influence was followed and the comunity that used the game as a stress relief and disconnect from real world issues have been pushed aside for the "few". The "few" is leaving now and blaming the comunity they used for views.
The comunity is not toxic, they are just all standing together and speaking as one about their hobby. All they want to do is to enjoy what they pay for.

Edited by Taejzon23: 10/1/2025 6:47:55 PMI logged in, shortly after reset yesterday. As SOON as I load into tower, I see 3 guardians with the new "Jade Rabbit" sets on from Eververse. Literally, at 2:03 EST. As long as things like this keep taking place, Bungie WON'T care about anything we do. It's a cash cow. Their silence is golden. It speaks volumes. It's all about getting what they can from us now. They don't care.

Reminds me, back in the day I played StarCraft 2 with friends. I got so used to the difficulty that I eventually could play on the toughest difficulty levels and it was easy for me. Same goes for majority of Real Time Strategy games. I play them enough that they’re fairly easy for me to beat on the toughest difficulty. Here’s something though that I was always mindful of: Just because it’s easy for me doesn’t mean that I need the devs to increase the difficulty across the board to satisfy my desires for a challenge. Sometimes you need to accept that you are good and at a different level than others. You’re just good. It’s not reason to remove the fun for everyone who don’t dedicate their lives to a game.

The streamer mass exodus is truly hilarious. Theyre crying and writing essays on their way out like anyone gives a F what they do lol.

The entire "causal vs hardcore" conflict that seems to persist like a ghoul in the night among the community honestly feels like a psiop to get us to fight amongst ourselves so that we all ignore the fact that Bungie set the ship on fire. We can sit here and argue about it all day, but at the end of the day casuals didn't ruin Destiny, and to be fair the hardcore audience didn't do it either. Bungie did, and it's easier to have us sit on the Internet and scream at each other, because that keeps the heat of off Bungie. I've said it for years. Bungie had no idea what direction to take Destiny, and a ship with no direction wanders aimlessly until it runs out of fuel and the crew eats each other, and that's what we're seeing now. We exist in a timeline where a mobile game more accurately captures the spirit of Destiny than the flagship game proper. I find that disgusting and it honestly makes me sad that we're at this point, and it isn't Dattos fault, nor is it the fault of the dad who works however many hours you people claim you work to make yourself feel better. It's Bungie. 100%, and I hate that. Because it's easy to accept a fall off when you can blame another party, but it's hard to face the reality that Bungie shot the golden goose and the people that played a role in that are long gone by now so there aren't many asses to hold to the fire.

I find toxic to be a word used by all the worst people.
-
Hell yes, toxicity breeds toxicity. I will personally mock and humiliate the developers if they spit in my face, limiting the content I paid for without any reason. You made a mistake "Tapir" and I will make rude remarks towards you, refund the content, and discourage my friends from playing.
-
I think it's both. I think there are toxic members of the community, but also that a lot of members of the community have reason to be frustrated (note here that being frustrated does not justify toxicity, and that's not what I'm saying.) As a casual, you're right, it doesn't feel like this expansion pack was built with me in mind, it feels like it was designed for engagement and retention, maximizing playtime at the expense of fun. I've been playing less and less; I still pop in from time to time to do Solo Ops - because that's what I can do, the group content is out of my depth, above my skill. The usual retorts to concerns about difficulty are that the game "isn't actually hard" - but difficulty is a subjective experience. What's easy for the high end of the bell curve can be punishingly and frustratingly difficult for those in the middle and low end. Next they say "Well just do easier content!" but that removes us from the loot and progression game, which also feels bad. Do we frustrate ourselves with (what is for us) painfully difficult content, or do we do easier content and make due with unrewarding rewards? After that they'll say "Well just stop playing the game, play something else!" and that seems to be exactly what people are doing, player counts are lower than they've ever been since I started playing. The casuals and averages are leaving the game, but I wouldn't say that's good for the game. Casual players are being asked to choose between lose/lose propositions, and it's no wonder that so many are choosing something else. There just isn't a place for casuals and average players in the current iteration of Destiny 2, and it feels bad being pushed out of a game I've played for 1,500 hours. None of this justifies toxicity or vitriol, but it does explain the player attrition we're seeing. I don't want Destiny 2 to fail, I want it to be a spectacular success! I want it to be a game I want to play, and right now it's not. People are frustrated to lose their hobby, we're frustrated that we can't participate, we're frustrated to be pushed out of our depth and into increasingly difficult content, we're frustrated with the ongoing grind, and that frustration adds up. I'll probably still play from time to time, the odd Solo Ops here and there, but I'm not playing like I used to. I miss casual content, I miss seasonal stories and activities, hell, I miss Onslaught. I'm just not cut out for the current game, and that sucks, but it's okay, Final Fantasy Tactics just released, I've got plenty to play.

Edited by Dooodley: 9/30/2025 8:08:32 PMThey are not catering to the streamers - which should be evident by how they're not happy either and quitting the game. No one wanted this tedious grind, which is all we got at the moment. The issue is that Bungie is composed of people who dont represent the typical gamer and they have no idea what we want. The old Bungie was just like us, nerdy gamer dudes, and they knew. I'm willing to bet that very few of the people currently in charge had game nights in their youth or even played much at all. In addition to that they're seemingly restricting everything so that people wont get their feelings hurt. We cant do this because then someone might be left behind, we cant interact because then someone might say something mean etc etc. I've for instance never played a successful PvP game where people couldnt communicate through voice. And while it is an option in D2 now it wasnt at launch, establishing a culture where no one uses it. I've literally never heard a random speak in a match. Hell, I can count on one hand the times someone has communicated in text in the Tower. Get rid of the snowflake culture and we might actually get a social game that people want to play - because as of now it's just a solo player game you're forced to go online to play.
-
the real community, according to the forums, hasn't played the game in 2+ years and spends their days complaining about the game that they quit playing while also harrassing whatever bungie dev they can find with death threats
-
Oh no bro… this community is toxic. They have actively hated on people enjoying the game for years. Two things can be true at once. People not playing because they aren’t having fun and the community being toxic are not mutually exclusive.

Edited by Rams: 10/2/2025 5:49:37 PM
The comunity is not toxic, they are just all standing together and speaking as one about their hobby. All they want to do is to enjoy what they pay for.
You completely missed the reason why the community is being called toxic. No one is saying it because people are stopping playing the game, they are saying it because the community gets mad at other people for enjoying it and wanting to play. Content Creator: "I really like this new raid, it new and interesting" Community: "Bungie shill, the game is horrible" They never said the game is perfect, but if they like a piece of content they are absolutely allowed to say they like something, just like you are allowed to say that you don't. No one holds it against you for not liking the game, that isn't toxic. People call you toxic for attacking them for liking parts of the game. People have these double standards and then go and completely misinterpret a simple statement and then get mad about it. I don't watch streamers, and very infrequently watch destiny youtubers, I'm just not stupid and understand what they mean... Edit: You people on here are just proving their point.

I finally got around to playing Fallout 4. I wasn't aware there was a update to PS5, so I am playing that. Already having more fun with it than with Destiny. I also play Terraria, Holocure, and a few other games I've been looking forward to finishing. I agree, with the community too. It's not wrong to get mad when you've been swindled. You paid for a product that was not brimming with content like The Witch Queen, but still paid a large sum of money for it..... and all the loot is locked behind the in-game shop.
-
It’s kinda ironic and sort of comical watching all these content creators pull a Pete because their views and revenue are down, even though they got the exact game they asked for.
-
The problem started with lightfall . Then the influence of streamers stating get good ,crank up the content did have some impact on the developers at bungie. If you have that level of toxicity then a once fun to play game becomes just another generic game that pursues difficulty as success. that neither makes the game fun or sustainable . bungie is burning at both ends and has a high burn rate. like it or not, casuals pay the bills.

This is too much wisdom to be on these forums…

Edited by CHAN9E: 10/2/2025 1:20:14 PMIm hardly a casual.. Im not playing because absence and voting with your wallet is the most productive form of commercial protest. All this gibber jabber and empty promises of ' fix the game or else' is falling on deaf ears. There is no real community.. Theres people who dont know how to let go.. people who are unwilling to walk away from something that makes them unhappy. It's gluttony for punishment. The devs know this. We know this.

Edited by NotCreative123: 10/1/2025 6:36:21 PMWhy I Think Players Quit: 1) Insane Power grind / Power Grind tied to gear drops 2) Other games released ("new" is more exciting) 3) Lack of new or engaging content / Lack of variety of content (play same mission 100 times) 4) Lack of exciting "rewards" (and shifting focus to Eververse for premier items) 5) Game breaking bugs (including extreme lag) 6) Lack of anticheat / players not playing fairly 7) Poor sandbox balancing (and the resulting lack of loadout variety)

The community is mad because Bungie ruined our favourite pastime. We didn’t want change, we wanted more content, and more FUN content.

One of the best comments ever in this forum. Well said m8. I havnt outrightly left Destiny yet but I will if this crap keeps up. I do little more than patrol now which I always enjoyed but like to other stuff every now and then.

Edited by Grizzly: 10/1/2025 9:22:55 PMIt's been said before so I will only echo it, standing on the shoulders of giants... Given that people speed run everything they can, ignore all the 'adds' and cheese whatever is cheeseable, skipping the gameplay, the story and the activity's relevance to any of it (also skipping actually enjoying any of that) for the sake of power-levelling or just trying to min/max their personal game progression. Whatever the reason, it's clear... The end-game of Destiny is to play less Destiny ... So why not skip to the ultimate end game and stop playing? You win! (I genuinely want to enjoy playing this game, but sadly I am finding less and less that I actually do enjoy!)

Bungie is to blame. Not the hardcore players or the casuals. Literally none of the streamers wanted this game to be in this sorry state. Thats why they are all quitting as well.

They listened to nearly everything you cried about and you were NEVER satisfied. Guess what happens when the content creators you hate leave? Less attention, less money, and less successes. The game dies and it is your fault. Casual toxic crybabies. Destiny is the most toxic community in gaming history. The saddest thing is that you narcissists don’t even realize it.

Agree… I just want the game to be fun again!
