Why Does It Feel Like Bungie is Actively Fighting the Playerbase?
Ever since EoF launched, we've entered a back and forth dance. Bungie introduces changes to the game that players dislike. Players backlash and force Bungie to change. Bungie makes a change that still isn't the best for the game. Then the cycle just repeats.
This sort of immature mindset isn't new to Bungie. I've seen it many times that they'll introduce a new system or aspect that doesn't really enhance the player experience, and instead of listening to players say they dislike it, they take this childish response that it's the players that are wrong and double down on their ideas.
Well now that ideology has influenced the base core of the game. There are so many anti-player systems in play now that obviously serve no other purpose but to artificially force player metrics. These systems are ruining the player experience and players are voicing their concerns. Bungie seems to want to ignore them, but the declining playerbase has forced their hand. However, they still refuse to let go of their systems.
Whether it's through stubbornness, ignorance, or even just simple incompetence, Bungie just isn't letting go of their systems they put in play. They'll give workarounds, ways to ease the pain, and even try to mask nerfs as buffs. Theyre doing everything they can to try to appeal to the players except for giving up their systems. It feels like they are trying too hard to force things in their favor. "You WILL like this, now give us your money."
A good game will earn player metrics naturally. Using force can achieve the same result, but will inevitably cause friction. It's not sustainable, and I believe we've reached a faulting point. The dwindling playerbase and low player sentiment is proof. It's time to give up the fight. It's time to give the players the carrot now.
