Alright cards on the table here.
I lost a close friend before rise of iron came out, and i made a Promise to him before cancer took him away to see this game through to the end.
despite 10 years of hardship and glory... this, this update alone is the closest ive come to breaking that decade long Promise.
i don't want to... i cant... but its getting really hard not to.
i just want to see destiny end on a bang instead of a whimper with everyone cheering its end.
i hope i am wrong in my questions to abandon it all, i am shure as hell keeping my currency a lot tighter in my wallet though from now on.

This is going to come off as sarcastic. But technically, D1 ended. And I doubt your friend would want you to play something that makes you unhappy. Alternatively, you are able to step away and play here and there and still be considered "playing."
-
Rest assured, you kept your promise. The Witness is dead. What we're playing now, for a lot of people (myself included), isn't really Destiny anymore. It's just evidence of a failing company resulting from a plethora of anti-gamer decisions, mishaps, and greed. I've begun a hiatus, and if you feel negative about Desiny, I recommend you do the same. You don't have anything to feel bad about, Bungie does. Take care.

Edited by Chookity-pok__: 9/16/2025 7:50:28 PMYou've honoured, and are still honouring your friend by remembering him and the great times you had together. We want our friends to be happy. Be happy. You have my condolences, Nick. As sad as it is, I'm happy that you got to share your happiness together.
-
I honor your friend and you have my condolences as cancer is a pain. I lost my dad and both grandmas to it in a span of a year. However I can't help feel you basically trapped yourself. You keep honoring your friend, frankly I never could for this long but unfortunately (or fortunately in your csse) bungie will never end this game as long as eververse makes money. And no matter how many wood chips they get from the bottom of the barrel they'll keep coming up with something

You did your part and you didn’t let your friend down, in my opinion.

just a quick thank you to those who commented, while its been so long i forgot his name and gamer tag i still remember their legacy. and i remember he wanted to be an iron lord, so if the young wolf's howl makes a return or when the eventual release of the axe comes at the very least i can carry the symbol of how dedicated he was to being the best guardian ive ever seen let alone got to face the darkness with. at the very least ill carry that axe till the last day the traveler's gift flickers to life, who knows mabye ill make something myself so not only he but many of the forgotten gardians can be honored. probably an axe, "honor the forgotten" mabye make it an exotic or at least an legendary if i where to make it in destiny but odds are ill just do it in blender and put it on a VRChat avitar so at least then when i go on there to record or play a minigame i can carry the legacy long after destiny finally shuts its servers down

OP: you’ve honoured your friend’s dying wish by simply playing the game. If you did the 12-man mission - then, that’s it - you’re done! Even if you didn’t do that 12-man mission - you’re still done…by simply playing the game up till now! Either way - Mission Accomplished! 👈 Now, that you’ve further honoured the memory of your dear friend (R.I.P. 🕯️)…perhaps it’s time for you to ‘ease springs’ and let go…and rest. 🤔 Be at peace! 🕊️ 🫡

The Final Shape is the end, this is just trying to keep the game running as long as possible until they can launch marathon
-
Dude, it ended with The Final Shape. Your friend would want you to be happy. Its OK to move on.
-
My good sir the pisspoor running of bungie makes no difference to us that play the game it’s about your mindset I had a small stroke a year ago I’m not saying the passing of your friends isn’t a small deal RIP for your friends give a reason to play please 🙏
-
You can keep your promise by readjusting your time and expectations in this game. I'm sure your friend wouldn't want you to be miserable and miss out on other things in life . You would regret if you abandoned a promise. Play the game but don't Live in it. When the time arrives whether it ends with a Bang or a Whimper, just say: We did it, buddy,"
-
Judging by your stats you don't play too much D2 anyways, just take a break then and stop being so overdramatic.
-
Never make a promise you can't keep if you can't live with the consequences of breaking it. On a more direct note, and I'm not trying to be rude, just factual. Your friend ain't here so it's only your own conscience that needs to be satisfied. Do what's right for YOU.
-
Especially if you bought the whole year already then just coast. Nobody said you had to work yourself to the bone. Play the story each week, run whatever seems fun, make a friend, then get off when it’s not fun 🤷🏻♂️ I have friends who are trying to power level this week. I tend to do more endgame content than them even and I’m like “nah, I’ll wait till they buff the drops on Tuesday and then maybe.” Black and white thinking is very bad for your mental health. You can play the game and not be miserable bashing your head against the wall.

Sorry to hear this. Sadly, Bungie has succumbed to corporate greed. They've lost sight on their vision and passion. D2 is nothing but a cash cow to them. Unless we get a major mix up in the higher ups, the game will continue until it's no longer profitable enough. As of now, the game is destined to die with a whimper. You have to listen to your heart. Did you make an agreement to see the game to its end? Or did you agree to see the story to the end? The Final Shape was D2's proper ending. Everything after is just a result of corporate greed forcing life support on their cash cow. It's not the original vision; it's not the original story. You can leave now if you want. I'm sure your friend would consider your promise fulfilled.

Edited by Geist: 9/15/2025 7:00:10 PMYour moment was the epic defeat of the witness. You saw through the whole journey. Destiny 2 won't be around much longer.
-
The end was The Final Shape. The Witness is dead, be free
-
Your friend wouldn't want you wasting your life doing something you don't enjoy. Stop playing if you're not having fun doing so.
