I’ve been playing Destiny for years. I’ve stuck through ups and downs, content droughts, balance issues, broken metas, and more. But with this latest Portal system and the way Bungie is handling progression, rewards, and player feedback… I’m honestly done giving them the benefit of the doubt.
The game doesn’t feel like Destiny anymore, it feels like a live-service treadmill where fun, agency, and meaningful rewards have taken a backseat to grind and artificially extended engagement.
The Portal system is restrictive, unrewarding, and unfun.
The Power grind is worse than ever.
Player feedback is either ignored or walked back only after massive backlash.
So now, looking at Marathon, a game Bungie expects us to get excited about, all I can think is why should I trust you again? Why should I invest time, energy, or money into a new game from a studio that clearly isn’t listening to its most loyal community?
If Marathon is going to be managed anything like Destiny 2 has been lately, built on systems that overcomplicate and underdeliver, then I’ll pass. Completely.
I say this not out of hate, but frustration. I want to like what Bungie creates. But right now, it feels like players are an afterthought, not to mention the recent state of the eververse controversy, and I refuse to support another title if this is the standard going forward.
Do better, Bungie. Or don’t be surprised when long time fans start walking away. Not just from Destiny, but from everything else too. Your reputation has a huge impact.
I know I just made a forum post about the portal, but I felt this also needed to be said.

Never wanted marathon anyway. The money WE as players have spent should have been invested in to destiny.

No one is going to want to touch Marathon after what they have done to Destiny 2. Don't worry about the copying scandal, the way they have treated the game and players in Destiny they are killing anything positive about not only their games but their studio. No one will want to buy it risk getting screwed over like we are in Destiny. It is so sad to see a studio dig their own hole for their grave.

Completely.
I've been thinking this since I ever heard from Marathon. What happened since "Beyond Light" DLC was enough for me. I wanted to finish Destiny 2, which I did, and I also gave Bungie an extra portion of trust with the "Edge of Fate" DLC (in my case, "Year of Prophecy"), but they just kept going on with their negative course. They've been so successful with their strategy that they will now be completely integrated into PlayStation Studios. Losing their autonomy. It's been chaos for a long time, and they will leave in chaos, like one already can be seen with the "Ash & Iron" update. And sorry... but I'm really not in the mood for Star Wars. Not with Bungie's doing. Edit:...

all we know is whenever any bungie IP plateaus or declines, they will treat the players like garbage and try to stripmine us for money they definitely aren't generating goodwill with this travesty

Marathon 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Marathons a hard pass for me, that IP has failure written all over it.

What do you mean “if”?? It clearly is. So don’t touch Marathon! Ever! -
I was fine with the portal in concept do solo strikes and various activities where I can customize things to make builds rather than being forced to deal with whatever bungie slot for a mode. Cool sweet, im all for it. But they literally took 1% of the game and left the rest to rot, which is just jaw-dropping that the dev team found it acceptable. Power grind always sucked and loved the seasons it was gone could play the things I wanted to. Heck as a ftp the power grind wasnt bad. From 10 to 200 or even 200-300 everything leveled you up and you got +3 so even if your slots are lacking due to rng its still a boost. But they screwed it up everything becoming strictly a +2. Why spend hours getting dupes ultimately going nowhere all the while they constantly are self congratulating when they "create" solutions due to feedback yet low and behold everything is throttled and all the meaningful changes are coming in their next expansion. An expansion that will end up being a glorified eververse advertisement because regardless of personal enjoyment nothing bu gir is doing with destiny incentives fresh blood or old guardians returning.

A PvEvP extraction shooter from the new Bungie? Not even remotely interested. Even if Destiny was still good. Maybe the streamers will like it. -
That’s what I’ve been saying. If this is how Bungie treats Destiny and the people playing it, how well do they expect Marathon to do?
-
No more it’s how Bungie are treating their players …the game is cooked .
-
I was 100% planning on getting marathon but I won’t touch it now. When it’s free i MIGHT consider giving it a go after the crap show this game has become, NOT HAPPENING!
-
Wouldn't touch Marathon anyway... you seen the reception it's had so far... wouldn't touch it with a telegraph pole, nvrmind a bargepole.
-
It'll be dead on arrival unless they land a 10/10. And considering Bungie's track record...
-
Bungie of the 2000’s would fire everyone currently at bungie for letting the game get to this point. Not being a comedian just stating the fall off. Loved this damn game for a long time bitter sweet we are currently here
-
ALERT
C
MARATHON HAVE CONCORD DEVS. Don’t support anything that doesn’t have to do with DESTINY.
-
I am pretty sure they are intentionally ruining Destiny 2 because they are pissed off that people weren't happy with Marathon.
I Won’t Touch Marathon
Bungie has been fairly clear, they did not make Marathon for Destiny players. They do not expect many if any cross over. after playing the alpha, I it is obvious that they are going after a different playerbase.

Look at all your options now though guardian. You can still buy the next expansion, dungeon keys, season pass and buy skipping ranks, shaders, ships, ghost, emotes, projections, weapon ornaments, armour transmog, old season passes, earn the right to buy raid jackets, event pass ranks, campaign skips, and 16 pieces of premium dlc. Did I miss anything?

Lol now imagine a game Bungie makes with monetization in mind from the ground up! It's going to insane! Currently destiny lets you: Preorder the next expansion, buy dungeon keys, season pass and buy skipping ranks, shaders, ships, ghost, projections, weapon ornaments, armour transmog, old season passes, earn the right to buy a raid jacket, buy event pass ranks, campaign skips, and 16 pieces of premium dlc.
