Why is there no Option any more for exclusiv Fullscreen?
Since the Edge of Fate update, Destiny 2 no longer supports Exclusive Fullscreen. It now runs in borderless fullscreen only, and that change has introduced a noticeable increase in input latency. Borderless mode uses something called "Composed: Flip" in Windows, which routes frames through the Desktop Window Manager before displaying them. This adds delay between your input and what you see on screen. Previously, in Exclusive Fullscreen, the game used "Hardware Flip" — frames went directly to the screen with minimal overhead. Now, with borderless mode forced, you're getting extra latency and less consistent frame delivery, especially noticeable in the crucible or fast-paced content. There’s currently no way to revert back to Exclusive Fullscreen. Compatibility changes in disabling FSO doesn't work. Just be aware that if the game feels less responsive post-update, it’s not placebo — the display pipeline has changed.
Turn on Exclusive Fullscreen - If possible, always be in Exclusive Fullscreen mode. This will bypass the windows compositor that adds latency.
Display mode options are typically found in your game’s video settings. Simply go to the settings, and enable fullscreen or fullscreen exclusive mode. In recent Windows updates, the latency of borderless windowed (windowed fullscreen) mode has slightly improved, but based on our tests we still recommend the fullscreen setting.

Hello there, This change was announced back in March.
Removing Exclusive Fullscreen We want to share some news today about an update coming to the PC version of Destiny 2 when Codename: Frontiers launches later this year. As you can guess by the title of this section, we plan to remove the exclusive fullscreen option in favor of windowed fullscreen, which will be renamed to fullscreen then. The windowed and borderless windowed options will stay as they are now. The reason for this change is simple. Our technology partners recommend this update as it offers performance that is as good, if not better, than the traditional exclusive fullscreen option. It also allows for faster Alt-Tab switching, which we know is very important for many Destiny players that use third party tools and websites; and a better integration with modern display features. This way we can simplify development and focus on fixes and improvements that matter most. This new fullscreen mode will handle resolution changes identically to how the current one does, and once the update is live, players that were using either exclusive fullscreen or windowed fullscreen will switch to the new setting automatically.
https://www.bungie.net/7/en/News/Article/twid_03_13_2025

Great link from 2020, but "Exclusive fullscreen mode on Windows allows an application to bypass the operating system's compositor, presenting frames directly to the display for improved performance, lower latency, and smoother frame delivery in games and video applications. On modern Windows versions, especially with the DXGI Flip Model, this can be achieved via borderless fullscreen windows, which the OS handles to provide a blend of direct rendering and smooth window switching." D2 uses DXGI Flip Model since 2022

Edited by TheHunter: 8/26/2025 6:20:26 PMToday's update 9.0.0.8 fixed 99% of the frame pacing issues Tested tower, edz 2 locations, Kepler 2 locations, moon. There is still a slight spike here and there, but now it at least doesn't miucro stutter becuase of it, Keper feels smooth now. Caldera teleport I guess is cpu bound for my 11700K @5ghz. I cant get 144hz vsync fps there, usually its 115-125fps.. If Im in the spire mode it starts at 144fps by teleport and all the way, funny stuff.
