Sometimes you get a perfect weapon early in the grind at tier 1 - 2 and it feels awful because you know you're going to want to grind it again at tier 5.
I think a system to upgrade tiers would be a great solution if done correctly.
First: this should NOT be a way of getting tier 5s for players who can't earn tier 5 gear. I'm going to ignore any comments from people who can't read and talk about handouts.
Now the actual suggestion.
Add an extra node next to the infusion node, hovering over it will bring up a menu very similar to the infusion one, but it only shows copies of the same weapon in your inventory
This will allow you to infuse a higher tier weapon into your lower tier weapon enhancing perks, barrels, mags, mods, and origin traits, BUT not adding any new ones.
For example, if you want to infuse a tier 1 agape with a tier 5 agape using this menu, your tier 1 would turn into a tier 5, get NO new perks but enhance current ones, and get the tier 5 ornament/everlasting sparks kill effect.
This can and should be expensive and cost enhancement cores/prisms/ascendant shards and alloys: with crafting/leveling/enhancing not being as big of a system in the game as it used to be I'm finding myself with more materials than I know what to do with and they're just going to my postmaster and getting deleted.

The point of tier system is to incentivize the grind. The point of extremely slow and latched light level is to incentivize the grid. The point of the light level reset is to incentivize the grind. See a pattern here? There are things that could be done to allow more variety of gameplay. Things such as adjusting material drops. Moving the XP up or down. Even releasing new forged weapon frames. I would complain more if I saw more Guardians with T5. But giving away T5 is a big NO. Earn it. May be elitism, but I will respect the time commitment. But only if it stays that way.
