Only way to remove it before you explode while solo is to have some kind of healing effect trigger while you're hobbling around. Usually this will be walking over an orb of power. It's a really lame modifier, like most of them these days. I think they have a sadist creating some of these, personally. EDIT: I believe casting your Super might also clear it, but I'm not positive on that one. It's never come up.
