Just seen the stats for console clears of Desert Perpetual contest mode...8/200
4% ....I honestly thought it'd be less (none) - I'd be very surprised if any of these console clears managed it without the use of additional hardware to allow using M&K.
I still enjoy playing this game, I don't plan on quitting and I ain't here to complain.
This is my feedback.
I play on PS5, I enjoy using a controller, I've sunk many thousands of hours into the game at this point and have bought every single expansion there is/was.
Except....Edge of Fate. I ain't buying that. Voted with my wallet in the hope that if enough people do the direction may change...but I don't hold out much hope.
After seeing the Contest mode stats and how the power level grind has been reworked, I feel vindicated.
I played the portal a little, went from power level 10 to around 180, without the campaign obviously (CAUSE I AIN'T BUYING THAT -blam!-)✌️and haven't logged on in about 3 weeks.
The portal is decent, VERY LIMITED but something to build on no doubt.
This is the crux.
I am a father, I have a job and I play on console with a bog standard controller.
This game is not made for me.
So from this point on, the only way I'm picking up a new D2 expansion is if it's the free monthly game on PS Plus.
Or there is an outrageous sale on.
And the thing is, it doesn't bother me, it's just that this direction doesn't appeal to me.
I used to raid a lot, it was my favourite thing to do, I loved Leviathan and Eater of Worlds.
Because they were fun.
Other raids were too.
The most fun I've had in this game was carrying teams through Eater with my Orpheus Tether Hunter shitting out orbs like Harry in Mary Swansons non-working toilet.
One of my best memories is 3-manning Eater the night before double specials went live with 2 friends I made through LFG.
They don't play anymore...
And I know why, the fun is in decline and has been for a long time.
I'd like to raid now and again. But it's not fun.
I own the deluxe Final Shape. Haven't done Salvations Edge or Sundered Doctrine. I wanted to, but it wasn't fun. Not because I wasn't capable, but mostly because finding 5 other like minded individuals who are capable is a slog.
And now I think I know where that fun went. It was sacrificed at the altar of designing the game around PC players
I now play this game almost exclusively to build craft, I'd like tier 5 armor but I'm not going to enslave myself to get it.
The guns still feel great and prismatic is fantastic. I wish they expanded on the exotic class items.
I'd always dreamed of running 4 exotic armor pieces. The build crafting possibilities, that excites me. That appeals to me. But the class items scratched the surface then...nothing.
Now I dream of 5 exotic armor pieces with a double perk on the class item (fully expanded with all exotic perks in any combination available on the class items) but again I don't hold out hope. Even if you could only use full exotic setup in limited scenarios...but no..
Instead we have armor perks for 2 pieces of matching gear. Meh
And the avant garde modifier. 🤦
Seasonal sunsetting. So by the time you get to the finish line...your back at the start again...
That's about all I've got to say about that...
Like I said I'm not here to complain, I've actually bought the legacy collection for steam because it was mega cheap on sale and I plan on buying a good PC (handheld) at some point.
What can I say, I like thumbsticks.
If the game ever stops taking a -blam!- (again in the style of Harry) on me for my choice of input device I may again consider purchasing new DLC.
Until then, I've got plenty of old content to play that I either haven't yet played or haven't played much.
A veteran guardian.

Yes they have pushed out most of their paying players to prop up the tiny group who play the game for a living yet always claim they have nothing to do with decisions in the game while using their platform to guide the games direction....
