Praise from a “casual” player

I don’t usually write posts, and even more rarely long ones, but as a casual player I want to congratulate Bungie on a good start with the Portal—it has reinvigorated my love of Destiny. Allow me to explain. Given the constraints of daily life, I’ll never have the time to do time-intensive activities such as dungeons and raids. This has made it nearly impossible for me to get great loot—aside from crafting, which can be a long and laborious process. Although a “casual” player, I’ve purchased every expansion, and played every mission. And without a viable path to new and interesting gear between expansions and, therefore, builds, I was getting bored. The new system has changed all that. In the first couple weeks of the new system, I’ve acquired some great loot (for me), and am really looking forward to getting the higher tiered gear that will allow me to try new builds and make them truly exceptional. I’m playing more now than I ever did. Part of what has made it so much fun has been Bungie’s generosity with gear drops and rewards--especially during the Solstice event. My only suggestion would be to remind Bungie that it attracts a mix of players. I don’t mind the grind, because it is more rewarding than ever before. “High—end” players, however, may resent not getting to do the end-game content they love right out of the gate. My suggestion: don’t lock those activities behind the grind. Let such players go after them right from the start. They’ll likely be even more engaged. They win, I win. We all get to get the gear we love, however we want to go after it. Oh, and one final request: please allow players to turn matchmaking off. NO, it will not reduce engagement, but likely increase it. I have some friends who are interested in Destiny but are entirely put off when we get matched with players whose sole ambition seems to be to speed run everything. It is incredibly off-putting to anyone seeking to actually enjoy the missions and settings you’ve designed. Just a thought. In short, well done Bungie. The new system, new gear tiers, and new format for seasonal activities is spot on. Much success to you as we move forward as a community.
