To help reduce the ‘grind’ feeling of using the portal to increase your power level I have some suggestions I think might help.
Instead of the bonus drop rewards being tied to a certain activity, either as quest reward or a preset bungie selected activity, allow the player to apply one at the start of an activity and the reward get used upon successful completion. This would free people up to use their bonus drops on a much larger variety of activities and would significantly reduce the repetitive play style that is currently the most efficient way to increase your level.
Secondly, as an alternative to the time bonus modifier that gives you a bonus for finishing quickly, add an alternative option in that slot that rewards players for killing a significant portion of the enemies in the encounter. This would mean that players that want to sword skate from objective to objective and finish quickly can still play that way, but also means that players who enjoy playing the game slowly or maybe having fun with a build, blowing everything up, can still earn a maximum score without compromising their play style and enjoyment.
Lastly, looking forward, if you were to implement the previous ideas, the more activities you have in each of the portal sub sections (solo, fireteam etc.) the more variety you would be allowing the player to enjoy whilst levelling up each season. You could even bring back some sunset locations and/or content (eg. The strikes on Mars and Titan) which would mean you don’t need to actually create new stuff to increase the volume of your portal repertoire.

I like these ideas. I have nothing to add, I just wanted to say I like your ideas.
