With Tier 5 weapons existing now, why not bring back crafting for everything? Crafted weapons are inferior now, effectively being Tier 1s, but they would give casual players something worthwhile to grind for.
Personally, I have no desire to play Destiny in its current state. It is not possible for me to get my power/rank high enough to get tier 5 drops before Renegades, only to have all my progress reset back to 200. But, if I could grind red borders to unlock crafting for the new weapons, that would value my time enough to be worth playing.
Edit: Yeah, should be “Tier 2”, but same concept.
Edit2: Also, by “casual”, I just mean someone who can’t invest 80+ hours to get to max light, but otherwise might be skilled at the game. I have no problem grinding Grandmasters, raids, or Trials, just can’t feasibly invest the time to get up to Tier 4/5 drops every season.

Cause bungie dosent like us being off the hamster wheel.

Yeah, I'm not going for Tier 5. If I get one, I get one, but I'm not going out of my way. As I've said elsewhere, this problem could literally be solved by having a way to upgrade tiers. Even if it was a less efficient way than straight up farming, bit give us the choice. I hate that I can theoretically (and actually have) gotten a god roll, except it's technically not because it's a Tier 1 weapon. Honestly, I would love a bunch of people to get together and actually get some data on the differences between tier 1 and tier 5 in terms of actual damage numbers because if past experience has taught us anything, I'm betting it's not much.

That way older guns have a catchup on how to obtain them if you missed out.

Edited by Cooper: 8/2/2025 6:59:11 PMFunny part is crafted weapons are just the equivalent of T2 in the new system so really it being brought back doesn't directly screw with the new system because if you want the absolute best roll you would pursue T4/5 anyways for enhanced everything it isn't even a handout anymore. (Despite it never being one in the first place)

Having cartable weapons would definitely make the grind at least slightly less of a pain in the -blam!-. Not by much but at least it would make it a touch less time consuming for a good weapon roll. Then it would just be light and armor

I would appreciate it!

Edited by Stalkholm: 8/2/2025 9:37:08 PMSeconded, I enjoyed crafting, I liked the hunt for red borders, I liked feeling some sort of connection to my gear, I enjoyed feeling like putting time into using the gear conveyed a return on that investment. I understand Bungie wants us to grind, but I really felt like they found a sweet spot with Echoes: Have a portion of the weapons be craftable, and a portion rely on RNG. We had the best of both worlds, but I guess it wasn't making the line go up the way they hoped. Hell, roll the whole Tier system into crafting, I'd be fine with that, a Tier 5 could takes, like, eight Ascendant Shards to craft, make it expensive as hell, meanwhile keep Tier 5 randoms dropping in the wild, best of both worlds. But then I'm one of the players who enjoyed crafting, so I guess I'm biased on this.

I would be farming red borders if it was still there right now. Instead I'm looking for other games

I recently made a long feedback post on how to solve this issue. In my opinion each weapon that drops should be able to be upgraded from base ( tier 1 ) to maximum ( tier 5 ). Simply invest resources into upgrading said weapon but make sure that the required resources can be farmed in abundance. This way people can upgrade their favorite weapons all the way to tier 5 and everybody will be happy.

Tier 5 are for the flex at the Tower. To a few exceptions maybe. When you see how bullet sponge even red bars are in high difficulty content, a few enhanced perks and barrel is not going to turn the tied compared to a tier 2 or tier 3 god roll. I plan on just playing the game the way I used to, level, and if tier 5 comes my way good. I already have a couple tier 4 and they sleep in the vault because they don’t work as well as a lower tier with my build. Bungie created a system, albeit not perfect, where people with endless time on their hands can grind forever almost and be rewarded with coveted gear. But you won’t need it to engage in end game that’s for sure.
-
I've still been using crafted weapons, they feel as good as/equal to/better than many of the tier 3 drops I've had.
-
Or make it till tier 4 but there has to be some grind for it to compensate

Edited by Dragokin: 8/3/2025 1:28:46 AMYa crafting would be T2...but I also believe that Crafted guns should be upgradable to T3 at weapon lv 100 and T4 at 200... allowing the try-hards to have their trophies...
-
With how bad the perk weighting is, we should be able to enhance perks and add mementos on tier 1s like pre EoF
-
Bungie wants crafting to be a catch up mechanic now. Which is such a stupid idea because I’ll just play the game when I have red borders to chase. Beats suffering this stupid power grind and I do not care about t4 or 5.
-
I remember when crafting was originally introduced there were multiple resources that were used. Eventually it was simplified, but what if they expanded it so that you could craft a weapon up to tier 5 but it would take rare resources to do so?
-
Crafting, as initially introduced was in conflict with the game's central premise. Another exampe is Blizzard regretting adding an auction House to Diablo.

Edited by Guardian,Archon Of Light: 8/3/2025 2:57:06 AMTier 2 is the same has a crafted weapon, without spending resources Why do you need crafting ?, it's like casuals can't exist without thier precious red borders, which you still had to repeat activities over and over to get, Bungie just removed the middleman
-
Actually crafted weapons would be on par with T2 since you can enhance them.
-
Just get some tier 2s or 3s. You don’t need to grind max rank and that’s ok
