Looking back at the edge of fate story and Kepler as a whole, here's my thoughts.
The overall story is intriguing, though I feel that in a campaign that promised "answers that'll leave us with more questions," we didn't get much of either.
Kepler- as a destination had promise, though I don't find myself motivated to return and search for all the secrets, whether that's lack of rewards, lack of LZs (sure, there's portals, do I feel like looking up which portals lead where? Not really.)
Sieve - a solid event, don't like being forced to use the destination abilities to complete it, especially when there's blue berries who just refuse to help. I find myself stuck in spark form most attempts where my friends and I have had to use matchmaking.
Abilities- started off as fun puzzle solving tools, became an annoyance. Doing the same thing over and over and over turns the abilities into something you get to do into something you have to do and I gotta say, defining how ppl should play instead of creating a sandbox ppl want to discover their own playstyle in, has been a huge issue with bungie for some time. I also don't feel like using the abilities as they'll be gone once Kepler isn't the main focus, feels like a waste, like we didnt gain anything and development time was wasted. Time that could have been used to give void sunclasses a second melee, give darkness subclasses another super or melee. Things we've been lacking for years.
Mysteries- most aren't mysterious and don't require much thought or investigation. Others have some decent puzzle mechanics. Many have zero connection to their puzzle, and you're just praying that what you just did finally opens up a shield somewhere.
Exiles the biggest letdown, for me, was how bland the villains are. Oh, they're gonna destroy the universe, how unique. And how did these incompetent unwashed eliksni kill one of the 9, if they didn't, it's never presented as a mystery or a lie we had to investigate. They get this cool, infected look, but no unique powers? Some can fly now with high-tech suits, but they're moving away from inorganic tech? what a mess. The archon can influence his generals, puppeting them, something we see all of one's times. Also, why are we surprised by this? We have the witness, the winnower, and the puppeteer, all of whom do something similar, so why are we shocked? No seriously, we wield space magic, our best friend is a talking polygon -blam!- brings us back from the dead, we traveled through alternate timeliness to help a robot get back together with his boyfriend, we're surprised by anything at this point? It's also never fully explained or explored. Just a generic boss with a crap plan. I could give a bunch of suggestions, but I ain't working for free.
text, text, text- yall really hate voice actors and the talent that sets the story apart. We're on our third ikora. Can someone get her a lozenge, please? I can tell her this, taking over for someone who left because they weren't being paid enough doesn't usually work out . Ontop of that NPCs just have crackling digital voices and ugly text boxes, no seriously these text boxes are hideous. they look worse than the worst indie shlock I've ever seen. If we can't understand the aionians, just don't have us talk to them. Make Orin (forgot she was even here), Drifter, ikora, and lodi, the main NPCs, but you might have to pay the actors, huh? Can't have that.
Orin- No, seriously forgot she was here. She spends most of her time stroking out in the background of convos. The fact it was played with zero camp made it feel less of a comedic relief and more like I was visiting an old folks home.
the Nine- definitely need to talk about the nine after Orin, because wth? They enslave ppl. Willingly, right? After altering the paths of their lives where they "willingly" give up their lives. I don't want to bind the 9, I want to kill them. They feel like the true villains. It's such a weird set of revelations given their largely benign, some times benevolent nature. The fact they influence so much while many want us dead, crazy. What does it even mean that 3, our nine, is dead?
