This grind…just isn’t fun.

I’ve been a Destiny player since the beta, and I’ve stuck through the game through the good times and the lean times. (You can check my player stats if you don’t believe me.) I’ve bought every expansion, every DLC, and every Dungeon Pass. I’ve completed every dungeon, raid, and GM nightfall. And despite my misgiving about the EoF grind and all of the negative news surrounding the game, I even bought this expansion to give the studio a chance. But this just isn’t fun anymore. Here’s what pushed me to write this post: I got home from work and had a few minutes to kill, so I hopped into the portal with my Hunter and did a Master solo quick play activity. It popped me into The Salt Mines, where there were Dread enemies. A Subjugator in the 1st and 3rd rooms. A Tormentor (!) in the middle room. And two boss Subjugators (2-bar and 3-bar) in the final run. Okay, so I guess that I’m sitting back and plinking at that Subjugator. Crap, the Haste modifer is on…so I guess I have to get mobile or die. What’s that - upgraded Rhulk blasts (from VotD) all over the place in every room? So much for being mobile. That’s no longer a quick play activity; that’s an oppressive 20 minute slog that honestly felt worse than any GM nightfall I’ve ever done. (Which honestly tracks since Master missions are more underleveled than a GM used to be!) This all points back to your decision that higher difficulty means being severely underleveled in all PvE activities, which means that following your default progress system turns portal and patrol activities into wars of attrition. This is only Master difficulty (im 282). So I can only imagine what Grandmaster will feel like - maybe like the Mythic campaign missions where I’m relegated to sitting back with my team plinking away with Outbreak Perfected like a D1 nightfall, only doing 7-13 damage per hit on a boss with 3 yellow bars because I’m 50 under level. Or hitting them with a Gathering Storm that won’t even take off one of their health bars. And we can’t out-level artificial underleveling. So you intended that our Guardians would always feel this way for every activity? What’s our incentive to get better loot if it doesn’t improve the experience of playing? How could 10+ years of player data lead you to believe that your players would want to do activity after activity that was as hard as a contest mode? How could anyone think this was fun? I’m not sure what your plan to rectify this is…but we’re two weeks in and I feel like it’s lost all of its fun already. And sure, you’ve already got my $$ for this release, but you won’t have my engagement until you can find a better balance.
