I’ve been a Destiny player since the beta, and I’ve stuck through the game through the good times and the lean times. (You can check my player stats if you don’t believe me.) I’ve bought every expansion, every DLC, and every Dungeon Pass. I’ve completed every dungeon, raid, and GM nightfall. And despite my misgiving about the EoF grind and all of the negative news surrounding the game, I even bought this expansion to give the studio a chance.
But this just isn’t fun anymore.
Here’s what pushed me to write this post: I got home from work and had a few minutes to kill, so I hopped into the portal with my Hunter and did a Master solo quick play activity. It popped me into The Salt Mines, where there were Dread enemies. A Subjugator in the 1st and 3rd rooms. A Tormentor (!) in the middle room. And two boss Subjugators (2-bar and 3-bar) in the final run.
Okay, so I guess that I’m sitting back and plinking at that Subjugator. Crap, the Haste modifer is on…so I guess I have to get mobile or die. What’s that - upgraded Rhulk blasts (from VotD) all over the place in every room? So much for being mobile.
That’s no longer a quick play activity; that’s an oppressive 20 minute slog that honestly felt worse than any GM nightfall I’ve ever done. (Which honestly tracks since Master missions are more underleveled than a GM used to be!)
This all points back to your decision that higher difficulty means being severely underleveled in all PvE activities, which means that following your default progress system turns portal and patrol activities into wars of attrition.
This is only Master difficulty (im 282). So I can only imagine what Grandmaster will feel like - maybe like the Mythic campaign missions where I’m relegated to sitting back with my team plinking away with Outbreak Perfected like a D1 nightfall, only doing 7-13 damage per hit on a boss with 3 yellow bars because I’m 50 under level. Or hitting them with a Gathering Storm that won’t even take off one of their health bars.
And we can’t out-level artificial underleveling. So you intended that our Guardians would always feel this way for every activity? What’s our incentive to get better loot if it doesn’t improve the experience of playing? How could 10+ years of player data lead you to believe that your players would want to do activity after activity that was as hard as a contest mode?
How could anyone think this was fun?
I’m not sure what your plan to rectify this is…but we’re two weeks in and I feel like it’s lost all of its fun already. And sure, you’ve already got my $$ for this release, but you won’t have my engagement until you can find a better balance.

I have been in clans and have even had my own clan, which have all fallen apart because of disinterest. Have been playing mostly solo since Destiny 2 and this new power grind is not worth my time! Playing the game casually now and the fun has gone, sad.

PVP got shafted hardwith these changes. You straight up don't get anything unless you win. I get wanting to incentivise winning, but that's what Trials and Comp are for. When you load into something simple like Control, most people just want to jump in, get paid and get out, maybe win. Now? It's not even worth finishing a match if you know you're going to lose.

All I can say is what an absolute 💩show.

Seconding this. The good gear comes from the higher difficulty activities, but the higher difficulty activities just aren't that much fun. I know what Bungie wanted, they wanted the higher level activities to be frenetic, fast paced, never a moment of rest; the bosses hit harder, the adds hit harder, we hit weaker, we have to keep moving, there are obstacles.... Some of that is fun, fair! But not all of it. So much stuff in this game just feels like a battle of attrition right now. Whittle down the enemy, die, come back, whittle them down some more, repeat. But you've gotta' do the harder stuff because of the reward system, the only reason to do lower level content is to kill time. The fun stuff, the content that makes us feel like godly Paracausal Guardians, gives worse and worse rewards with time. Plinking a boss for ten minutes isn't fun, but you've gotta' do it, because getting within a meter of an enemy is almost a death sentence. I think I remember Bungie once saying they didn't want us sitting at the back of a map and sniping everything, but that's what we've gotta' do to stay alive. I play Destiny 2 for the hero moments, I can plink anywhere.

It’s really sad to see the addicts do the same few activities over and over to crawl to 400 for no real gains . So many have woken up including me . I play but only now in short bursts . The destiny pull has gone for good !

Edited by Afterburne: 7/30/2025 2:42:11 PMI have realized there is an awesome game play loop! 1. Start D2 2. Choose character 3. Hit "S" 4. Look at an item to see if I think I need it 5. If not, hold "F" for a few seconds 6. Repeat a few times 7. Log off with a great feeling of having accomplished something meaningful in the game!

Don't worry, watch aztecross video how to level up as it seems youtubers know how to level up fast and have fun.

The game is not meant to be fun; it's meant to make you spend more and more time to achieve less and less. It's a pure engagement farm to inflate played hour numbers and convince investors that this game can be profitable and keep the money coming in. Welcome to gaming design in the 21st century, where having fun and agency of what you do, in a game that you will not own, even paying for, accordingly to most TOS, is bad for business.

I can certainly agree with 99% of what you wrote. Last week's mission for the week, on mythic, solo ... Just for the tier 4 was a horrific experience for one piece. Not fun. Watching my female character make Lodi look nervous in a cutscene was more entertaining. I will say I enjoyed the story, but they chop it up with too many mechanics. As for a hero moment, it had to be sometime in which I was a ball , since I spent most of my time rolling around zapping aliens and powering up generacs. 🙄

Given the video released by Kackis on the state of the grind, I have the feeling it must be on Bungie top priority of things to fix by now. I would not be surprised if we see some changes to the power grind for the better coming in the next few weeks. The feedback is pretty unanimously bad.

Woah that's a whole lotta complaining

Leveling is fun when it’s being done while playing new stuff. Having to play stuff from season of the wish and SAVATHUNs spire to level up is weird. And what are we leveling up to do again?

Misery loves company.. The miserable devs, our company.
this just isn’t fun anymore.
It's definitely slower paced than vanilla D2.
-
Im currently role-playing as miserable during this expansion.
-
*it's not fun!!!!* *continues playing*

Get yourself a minty (pinnacle ops) - it completely wrecks those subjugators. It's probably going to catch a nerf at some point but the Mint Retrograde is insanely strong in master solo ops.

A Tormentor (!)

I am not at that level yet, but I can certainly see the handwriting on the wall. Who actually wants to play anything under-leveled all the time? We play games because we want to have FUN. That usually means feeling like you are actually, you know, winning. I don't want things to be easy all the time, but I also don't want to feel like I have to hide behind every corner all the time plinking away at the same target. Hanging out at the new shooting range and spending all my time there would be awful, but the sound of the grind after I reach 200 sounds just as demoralizing. Fortunately I only bought the expansion. As such, I will likely finish the side-quests and uninstall. 🤷 Good luck to you.

Problem is that Bungle workers use developer builds not the retail version. They just turn up their power level any time they like, without any grinding at all. They don't play the game that we do and can't see why we complain (not everyone of course) about it being too hard to be enjoyable. I'm only 172 and tried expert solo. Might as well have been shooting at the wall for all the damage I caused. Now I'm supposed to grind and grind to get my power level up high enough to suffer through even harder crap. Nope, not going to do it. So glad I didn't buy Edge of Fart. Hey look, the sun is out!

Sound more like destiny 1 vanilla. Just keep going. it's fine
