“Fullscreen” stutters and unplayable fps needs acknowledgement

ASUS Gaming Desktop PC G22CH-DS774S Intel Core i7-14700F 16GB DDR5 1TB SSD GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER Windows 11 Home - responding to dmg04’s tweet to share which technology is experiencing this issue of dysfunctional frame rates Game ran amazing on my brand new computer I got to play eof, post update, frame counter displays same numbers but movement visuals became so choppy that it was unplayable. For clarity; this is not just on Kepler, it is the entire game, and especially noticeable chop during PvP Removal of exclusive fullscreen IS THE CULPRIT I am quite disappointed that bungie has yet to acknowledge this problem as it has made the game unplayable for many who’s pc doesn’t seem to recognize the new ‘windowed fullscreen’ Bungie we need some response on this issue. The fact that this passed quality assurance is disturbing. I’ve reset my bios, updated and rolled back my driver, installed and uninstalled graphics card, I’ve done every possible troubleshooting step over hours and hours of trying to fix this I’ve had to play the campaign on my laptop because the choppy frame time and stuttering on my desktop bc (brand new this month btw) is literally so upsetting to look at that my old 3060 laptop looks better. Please respect your player base by showing this issue some voice bungie. This is typically the most upvoted pc issue In your help forums and there’s still no mention by bungie of this completely game ruining issue for those who are experiencing it.

  • My issue is that if I alt+tab out of the game, I run the risk of the frames dropping to a freeze and then getting error coded out. Prior to EoF I could alt+tab just fine in fullscreen, the issue only existed in windowed. Since Bungie reworked the fullscreen, I can't alt+tab without the game freezing or crashing, or being totally normal and then randomly closing with no warning. It's making it very difficult to play the game, since I alt+tab during matchmaking.

I'm not sure if what I'm experiencing is 100% similar, but I've also been receiving weird hitching ever since the EoF update. Nothing severe compared to others who have reported extreme stutters and 50+ fps drops, but I am consistently getting frametime hiccups every few seconds. This is actually an issue that has popped up here and there in previous seasons. Black Armory was one and the most prominent was during the launch of Beyond Light. Fps would be steady until you'd see the fps counter in the corner drop 1-2 frames and cause this annoying hitch. Standing still, moving and looking around, it would always happen no matter what. It wasn't until a later update that this was rectified. Nothing on my end or others fixed it. Prior to EoF I had 0 issues. No frame drops or stutter. Feels like history repeating itself and I do feel like the loss of native fullscreen could be a reason why.

  • Ryzen 5 5600x, Rx 570 8gb 32gb 3200mhz Same problem here, yes, my GPU is bad nowadays, but my game before EoF ran perfectly fine, even in scenarios with numerous things happening on the screen But it's so trash rn, I just don't want to play because of that, the game is 60 fps but looking like 20, all of that in 1 update

      • confirm. It's very difficult to play, the game doesn't work so smoothly and the FPS feels like it's sagging a lot.and she also started to hang up and crash. Everything used to be buttery smooth.and in 4,000 hours, I haven't had a single crash!

This is the biggest problem for me currently I have it while on dual monitor only thought. When im only on one it's fine but then on dual my refreshrate is set to 60HZ as checked by the ufo test but in windows it says 165HZ which I know is not the case because I can see it not being smooth. The weirdest thing is it's not always happening some of the time it's broken, other times it's completely fine.

        • I support this. Please Bungie acknowledge the problem, so we know, that you are on the problem. Its now a week and a half and still no official response. I can confirm that the game runs without any stutter on PS5. But this isn't my main platform to enjoy it.

I support this 100%. The game feels like you are riding a carriage with wooden wheels on Cobblestone road. I'm using a 9800X3D and a 3080 playing at 1080p res on ASUS TUFF GAMING VG259QM Monitor (which is my main one ) and a Benq vz2350 secondary one on low quality settings with G-SYNC enabled on only the Asus one. Also windows 10s latest update (just like before the DLC). In control 6v6, which I have played a lot ( in other areas too ) even though I'm getting above 220 frames but sure as hell doesn't feel like it. I feel like I'm constantly stuttering and not having a smooth experience what so ever. #Bringbackexclusivefullscreen

        • The game is almost unplayable on my system. With a noticeable 30% drop in performance, mouse input feels laggy, and the constant stuttering makes for a horrible gameplay experience. These problems did not exist two weeks ago in episode heresy. Please look into this ASAP, or at least acknowledge the issues.

        • Aside from the fact that my game keeps crashing randomly, whether it's after 10 minutes or 5 hours... it's unfortunate what's happening. I've tried every possible step to try to resolve this, and nothing has worked. I initially thought it was an Nvidia driver issue, since the latest drivers this year weren't that great, so I switched to 366.36... and it still keeps crashing. The game simply freezes and closes without any errors. Is anyone else experiencing this? It started right after the expansion came out. Sorry if my text contains any errors; I'm using a translation tool.

Did this start affecting others on like late Tuesday/Wednesday of this week? My game was running great at reset this week and then yesterday and today has been so choppy its unplayable. Thought it might have been some Windows update or an update to GeForce but I can run other games with similar resources needs without issue (NMS and Helldivers2). I took your advice and dropped it to windowed (2560x1440) and that stopped the stuttering completely. Not sure what has happened with the latest update, but this is kinda disappointing that no one from Bungie has acknowledged it. Lenovo Legion Pro 5i w/ i5 core Geforce RTX 4050 Win11 16GDDR EDIT - Windowed mode worked well for about 3 Portal matches then started stuttering again.
